Klim and CM Vlaams-Brabant Celebrate the Opening of Dilbeek Sensory Farm

Dilbeek (Eurotoday) – The sensory farm in Dilbeek on Kasterlindenstraat, managed by Klim and supported by Christian Mutualities, is now open, offering animals, gardening, and activities for visitors with disabilities.

As VRT News reported, the sensory farm on Kasterlindenstraat in Dilbeek, in the province of Flemish Brabant, Belgium, has opened to the public. The farm is located on the border of Dilbeek and Sint-Agatha-Berchem. It operates on the grounds of the non-profit organisation Klim, which provides permanent housing for people with multiple disabilities.

Els Rossignol, director of CM Vlaams-Brabant, said the new project allows schools, residents, and visitors to explore the farm. She explained that the farm has existed for some time, but this initiative makes it accessible to the wider community.

“The farm has been around for a while, but with our new project, we want to open this beautiful place to schools, residents, and others,”

says Els Rossignol, director of CM Vlaams-Brabant.

“It houses alpacas, goats, sheep, horses, chickens, and a few cats.”

What activities does Dilbeek’s Kasterlindenstraat sensory farm offer?

The farm is home to alpacas, goats, sheep, horses, chickens, and a few cats. Officials mentioned that the main attraction is the therapeutic horse program. The farm has special equipment to safely lift and help people with disabilities get on the horses for riding. Visitors can also pet and groom the animals, or simply lie down and spend time with them.

The farm invites schools, residents, and visitors to take part in its activities. People can help in the garden, grow their own vegetables, or care for and feed the animals. The vegetable garden beds are designed to be accessible for people in wheelchairs. Els Rossignol, director of CM Vlaams-Brabant, said this project makes the farm open and inclusive for the wider community.

According to CM Vlaams-Brabant, there is a strong need for spaces where people with and without disabilities can meet.

“Care doesn’t have to mean isolation. Many people need not only care but also the opportunity to connect and participate. We’re happy to provide that here,”

concludes Rossignol.

Belgium has seen similar projects in the past. One is Nos Pilifs Farm in Brussels, founded in 1984, which provides employment and training for people with disabilities in gardening, animal care, and farm activities.

In 2020, the Inclusive Farm was launched to help people with developmental disabilities learn life skills, grow vegetables, and take part in cooking and crafting, while families also participate to create a supportive environment. Another project, Jardin des Curèyes in Theux, allows nursing home residents to engage in gardening and farm activities, promoting social interaction and well-being.

Finally, a place where you can pet an alpaca and ponder your life choices at the same time! Who knew sensory therapy could also mean a bit of ‘farmyard chic’? 🐑✨

  2. So, a sensory farm in Dilbeek, eh? Finally, a place where we can all pretend to be farmers while secretly judging the goats’ fashion sense. 🐐💁‍♂️

Oh joy, another farm opening, just what we needed—more opportunities for awkward encounters with goats and existential crises among alpacas. Guess it’s time to dust off the wheelchairs and bring the whole community together for some serious animal therapy! 🐐✨

Opening a sensory farm in Dilbeek, eh? Just what we needed—more alpacas to distract us from the real issues. I suppose next they’ll be hosting a goat yoga class for diplomats. 🐐🧘‍♂️

Just what we needed, another farm where we can “connect” with alpacas and pretend we’re in a pastoral paradise. Because who needs a good old pub for socializing when you can pet goats? 🐐🥳

Opening a sensory farm, eh? Because nothing says “community engagement” like putting a few goats and alpacas to work – must be the Belgian way of solving social issues with a side of hay! 🐐🌾

Opening a sensory farm, eh? Because nothing says “let’s connect with nature” quite like alpacas and wheelchairs on Kasterlindenstraat. 🐑💼

  9. Just what we needed—another farm where you can pet a goat and call it a day! 🌾🥳 Because clearly, the best way to connect with nature is with a side of therapy and a sprinkle of community spirit, right? 🙄

Oh great, just what we needed—another farm where you can get muddy with the goats while contemplating the wonders of inclusivity. Because nothing says “progress” like petting a sheep while pondering the state of the EU, right? 🐑😏

  11. Looks like Dilbeek’s got its hands full with alpacas and the lot—who knew farm life could be so inclusive? 🐴 Hope the goats are ready for their close-ups; I hear they’re the real stars of the show! 😂

Opening a sensory farm? Brilliant! Just what we needed in Dilbeek – a place where everyone can enjoy the aroma of freshly mown grass and the sweet sound of goats bleating, because nothing says community like playing with animals while discussing the latest EU regulations. 🐐🌱

Opening a sensory farm in Dilbeek? Brilliant idea! I mean, who wouldn’t want to pet a goat while contemplating the complexities of European politics? 🐐🌍

  16. Opening a sensory farm, eh? Just what we needed – a place where the goats are probably more qualified to give advice than some of our politicians! 🐐😏

  17. A sensory farm, you say? Just what we needed—more ways to smell hay and pet alpacas while pretending we’re all in a wholesome fairy tale. 🐑🌱 Can’t wait for the next “inclusive” gathering where we can all bond over our shared love of farmyard chaos! 😂

  18. Oh, a sensory farm in Dilbeek? Because nothing says “cutting-edge innovation” quite like petting goats and riding horses! 🐐🐴 Just what the world needed – more animals and less Wi-Fi! 😂

Just what we needed, another farm where folks can get their daily dose of ‘nature therapy’—because who wouldn’t want to hang out with goats while pondering the state of the economy? 🐐🌱

  20. Just what we needed, another farm where we can all “connect” while brushing the alpacas. Because nothing says community like getting your hands dirty with a bunch of goats, right? 🐐💁‍♂️
