"Serbia Must Take Concrete Steps Towards EU Membership, Says von der Leyen"

Belgrade – “Mr. President, it is time for Serbia to take concrete steps” toward its ambition of joining the European Union, stated European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday during a joint press conference with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

“We require progress in the areas of the rule of law, electoral reforms, and press freedom,” she noted, emphasizing the need for “greater alignment with our diplomacy, including sanctions against Russia,” which Serbia, a candidate for EU membership since 2012, has yet to impose.

“EU membership is a strategic commitment and a top priority of our foreign policy,” replied President Vucic, who has been balancing diplomatic relations between the EU and his strong connections with Russia and China, the latter having made significant investments in Serbian mining. Oh sure, nothing says “we’re ready for the EU” like a decade-long game of diplomatic hopscotch while keeping your best mate Russia on speed dial. 🤷‍♂️

So, Serbia’s gotta take “concrete steps” towards EU membership, eh? Maybe they’ll just use the same cement as the EU’s promises—hard to find and even harder to set! 😂

  3. Looks like Serbia’s EU membership is like a fine wine—always getting better with age, but still stuck in the cellar. 🍷🚪

Serbia’s EU application must be like a fine wine, aging gracefully in the cellar while the rest of us sip on the good stuff. 🍷 Just a bit of “concrete steps” and we’ll be toasting to membership in no time, right?

  5. Looks like Serbia’s EU dream is just a fancy game of hopscotch, where the squares are painted with rules nobody wants to follow. Maybe Vucic should try a little less balancing act and a bit more actual steps, eh? 😂

Looks like Serbia’s EU membership is just a slow dance, innit? 🤔 Maybe if they throw in a few more “concrete steps,” they’ll finally make it to the dance floor! 💃🕺

Serbia joining the EU, eh? Just a casual stroll towards compliance while juggling Russia and China like a circus act. 🎪 Who knew foreign policy was this much fun? 😂

Looks like Serbia’s EU dreams are about as close as a taxi driver’s fare meter when you’re stuck in traffic. 🚕 Better start polishing those concrete steps, eh? 😏

  9. Concrete steps, huh? Maybe if we just build a nice little walkway to Brussels, they’ll let us in for tea and biscuits! 🍵🇷🇸
