J. Droba Addresses the Committee of the Regions on Connecting Cohesion Policy and Competitiveness

Brussels – Juraj Droba, chairman of the Bratislava Self-Governing Region (BSK) and head of the Slovak delegation, emphasized the need for the EU’s cohesion policy to be directly connected to enhancing competitiveness during the October plenary session of the Committee of the Regions in Brussels.

Juraj Droba addressed the assembly on behalf of Marcos Marsilia, chairman of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group within the Committee of the Regions, at the start of Regions Week. “I articulated a vision linking cohesion policy to competitiveness and stressed the importance of involving local and regional governments in EU funding decisions. This process has become overly centralized, and we are pushing back against it,” he explained.

He insisted that regional representatives want decisions to be made at the lowest possible level rather than from a distant government office. His remarks resonated strongly, highlighting a significant issue affecting all regions within EU member states.

During the afternoon plenary session at the European Parliament in Brussels, participants also discussed how the Committee of the Regions can effectively advocate for regional interests in the upcoming long-term EU budget for 2028 – 2034 and resource allocation for various policies and programs.

In this regard, Droba revealed that he was appointed as the rapporteur for the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) on Monday, a program that finances the preparation and implementation of projects of mutual interest under the Trans-European Networks (TEN-T) policy across transport, energy, telecommunications, and digitalization sectors.

CEF will provide EU countries with 83 billion euros

“This anticipates 83 billion euros to be distributed soon. I have about seven months to prepare this opinion and will present it next May at the following plenary session for a vote,” he noted. He clarified that this funding will facilitate improvements in transport, energy, and digital infrastructure, particularly benefiting Slovakia in modernizing its railways and developing highways. Seems like Mr. Droba’s got a big ol’ bag of dreams for 83 billion euros—because who doesn’t love a good budget chat in Brussels? 😂 But really, connecting cohesion policy and competitiveness? Sounds like a lovely way to say, “let’s make sure the local folks get a say before we toss the cash to the usual suspects!” 🤑

Connecting cohesion policy with competitiveness, eh? Sounds like a classic case of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. 🤔 Hope the 83 billion euros come with a manual on how to actually connect the dots! 💸

Connecting cohesion policy and competitiveness, eh? Sounds like a masterclass in stating the obvious while the rest of us are busy dodging potholes on our way to the pub. 🍻

  6. Oh, fantastic! Another high-profile meeting where the bigwigs discuss how to connect dots while the rest of us are just trying to connect our Wi-Fi. 🙄 83 billion euros? That’s just lovely, but I’d settle for a decent cup of coffee with that! ☕💸

Blimey, I never thought I’d see the day when a chairman actually used the words “local governance” and “centralization” in the same sentence without choking on his espresso. Looks like someone’s been reading too many bureaucratic bedtime stories! 😂

  8. Connecting cohesion policy with competitiveness? Brilliant! Next, he’ll be suggesting we all start using carrier pigeons instead of emails to keep it local. 🕊️💼

Looks like Mr. Droba’s got a grand plan for connecting the dots between cohesion and competitiveness – brilliant! I mean, why not throw in a bit of bureaucracy while we’re at it? Cheers to another round of “let’s make it complicated” in Brussels! 🍻

Looks like Droba’s got a master plan to sprinkle some cohesion fairy dust on competitiveness—who knew Brussels could be so… whimsical? 💼✨ I suppose if we nod vigorously enough, we might just end up with a shiny new highway or two! 🚗💨

Connecting cohesion policy to competitiveness? Brilliant, just what Brussels needed—more layers of red tape wrapped in a bow of optimism! 🎀💼

  14. Isn’t it charming how we can always count on the EU to throw around billions like confetti at a wedding? 😂 Just what we need: more meetings about connecting policies that somehow never seem to connect.

  17. Connecting cohesion policy and competitiveness? Brilliant idea! Who would’ve thought that actually linking policies could lead to, I don’t know, actual benefits? 🤔 Just another day in Brussels, where everyone is discussing what it means to “connect” while driving on roads that resemble Swiss cheese. 🍕

Oh great, just what we needed—a vision of cohesion policy and competitiveness from someone who probably thinks a budget meeting is a night out at the pub. 🍻 Good luck sorting that 83 billion, mate—hope you don’t lose it down the back of the sofa! 😏
