European Airlines Set a “Deadline” for Non-Fossil Fuels

Paris – Airlines for Europe (A4E) has indicated that European air carriers may have to request a delay from the EU regarding the 2030 targets for integrating sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) into aircraft.

The EU has set a requirement for an increasing percentage of aviation fuels to originate from renewable sources, starting with 2% at the beginning of this year, rising to 6% by 2030, and reaching 70% by 2050.

“We may need to ask for a postponement” of the timeline, said Luis Gallego, leader of the IAG group (which includes British Airways and Iberia), representing the association during a press videoconference in Paris.

A4E then urged the European Commission to engage in a “strategic dialogue” with the aviation industry, akin to discussions held with the automotive sector. (October 14, 2025)

Just what we need, a deadline for a greener sky—because nothing says “eco-friendly” like a last-minute scramble! 🛫💨 Let’s hope they don’t run out of time… or excuses! 😏

  2. Oh sure, because who wouldn’t want airlines to make a “strategic dialogue” with the EU—sounds a bit like a group therapy session for carbon emitters, doesn’t it? 😂✈️

Looks like the airlines are really aiming for the skies… but only if they can hit snooze on that pesky deadline. Who knew saving the planet would come with a side of procrastination? 😂✈️

Oh, look at that! Airlines asking for more time to ditch fossil fuels—who would’ve thought? Maybe if they spent as much energy on actually flying green as they do on these “strategic dialogues,” they’d be up in the clouds already! ✈️💨

Nothing like a good ol’ deadline to spark a lively chat about sustainability, eh? 😂 Maybe they’ll just fly around in circles until 2050—who needs fuels when you’ve got hot air? ✈️

  6. “Deadline for non-fossil fuels? Brilliant! I can’t wait to see how many aviation CEOs will be flying their private jets on ‘renewable’ air. 🚀✈️ #GreenDreams”

Just what we need—airlines asking for more time to go green while we’re all still waiting for them to get our luggage back on time! 😂 Looks like their “strategic dialogue” needs a bit of a lift-off, eh? ✈️

So, let me get this straight: airlines want a “deadline” extension for using non-fossil fuels? Must be nice to run a business where you can just ask for a do-over like it’s a game of Monopoly! 🙄✈️

Looks like the airlines are really taking that “green” initiative seriously… right after they finish polishing their crystal ball for a forecast on sustainable fuels. ✈️💨 Good luck with that 70% by 2050, lads! 🤷‍♂️

Oh sure, let’s just have another “strategic dialogue” while we’re at it—I’m sure that’ll magically solve our fuel woes by 2030. No pressure, chaps, it’s not like the planet’s running a marathon or anything! 😂✈️

  11. Looks like the airlines are planning a little tango with the EU deadlines—who knew flying could come with such a dramatic twist? 🎭 Maybe next they’ll request a “strategic” chat about how to turn lead into gold. 🍷✈️

  12. Deadline for non-fossil fuels? Brilliant! Let’s just add it to the list of European “suggestions” right next to punctuality and sunny weather. 🚀✈️

  13. Oh, fantastic! Nothing like a good old-fashioned deadline to really get the planes flying in circles—cheers to hoping 2030 is just a suggestion! 🥳✈️

  14. Looks like the airlines are trying to play hopscotch with deadlines again. Maybe they’ll find a way to fuel their planes with good intentions instead of actual SAF! ✈️😏

Oh sure, nothing screams “sustainable” like asking for a deadline extension, does it? Next, they’ll be requesting a few extra decades to figure out how to make flying green… 😂✈️

  16. Looks like the airlines are trying to perfect the art of procrastination – because who doesn’t love a good chat about “strategic dialogues” when there’s a deadline looming? 😂✈️

So, the airlines need a little more time to swap their petrol for fairy dust, eh? Must be tough flying high while trying to keep the planet afloat! ✈️🌍

  18. Looks like the airlines are taking their sweet time with this whole “saving the planet” thing, eh? Maybe they should just add a few extra layovers to the timeline – can’t rush perfection, after all! 😏✈️

  19. Looks like the airlines have decided that “renewable” fuels are just too avant-garde for 2025; maybe they need a few more years to figure out how to fill a tank with sunshine? ✈️🌞 #ProgressAtItsFinest

Looks like the airlines are taking the “sustainable” in “sustainable aviation fuel” as a suggestion rather than a requirement. Classic, innit? ✈️💨
