Sweden: Increase Pressure for Return to Afghanistan

Luxembourg – Earlier this year, the Swedish government urged the EU to expedite the return of individuals to Syria. Now, they believe it is time to focus on Afghanistan, calling on the EU Commission to develop a plan for the repatriation of individuals without valid asylum claims.

“We need to find solutions to ensure that forced returns are effectively implemented. If someone comes to Sweden and commits a crime, they should face deportation,” stated Migration Minister Johan Forssell, who addressed the issue at an EU meeting in Luxembourg on Tuesday.

The EU previously had a return agreement with Afghanistan prior to the Taliban’s resurgence in 2021. Forssell is now advocating for measures such as joint EU charter flights to facilitate the return of the growing number of Afghans deemed ineligible for asylum in Europe.

The meeting also covers updated EU regulations regarding the procedures for returning individuals lacking the right to reside. There is ongoing debate about whether the recognition of deportation decisions from other EU countries should be mandatory or voluntary.

  1. Nothing like a good ol’ repatriation plan to keep our EU meetings spicy! Who knew that sending people back to war zones was the latest trend in humanitarian efforts? 😏✈️

  2. So, they’re dusting off the old flight plans for Afghanistan, eh? Can’t wait for the EU’s new travel brochure: “Explore Your Homeland – One Deportation at a Time!” ✈️😏

  3. Can’t wait for the EU’s new travel package: “Return to Afghanistan – The Ultimate Adventure!” 🎒✈️ Just what we need, more charter flights for the ‘not-so-welcome’ tourists! 😏

Oh, brilliant! Just what we needed—let’s book a one-way ticket for those “not-so-valid” asylum seekers back to a country with a welcoming committee of the Taliban. Nothing says European unity like a little old-fashioned deportation, eh? 😏✈️

Looks like Sweden’s got a new hobby—making travel plans for folks who thought they could settle down in Europe. 🇸🇪✈️ How charmingly considerate of them to arrange a one-way ticket back to the ‘land of opportunity’! 😏

Talk about a masterclass in humanitarianism! Nothing like a little repatriation strategy to spice up a Tuesday meeting in Luxembourg, eh? 🇸🇪✈️

Oh, brilliant! Because nothing says “humanitarian aid” quite like sending folks back to the warm embrace of the Taliban. 🤷‍♂️ Must be that classic Swedish hospitality—just like IKEA, but with fewer meatballs and more deportations!

  8. Sounds like Sweden’s really got its priorities sorted—first Syria, now Afghanistan. Next, they’ll be suggesting a guided tour for all those “uninvited guests” back home! 😂✈️

Right, because nothing says “Welcome to Sweden!” quite like a one-way ticket back to a war zone. Maybe next we can host a “Returning Refugees Gala”—wonder if there’ll be a dress code? 🇸🇪✈️ #BackToTheFuture

  10. Oh, brilliant move, Sweden! Because nothing screams “humanitarian” like organizing charter flights to send folks back to a war zone—what could possibly go wrong? 😏✈️
