Earlier this month, three Russian drones were intercepted in Poland’s airspace. Denmark also reported new drone sightings over defense sites on Friday and Saturday, following earlier drone activity that temporarily closed major Danish airports.
On early Sunday, Russia launched an attack involving nearly 500 attack drones and over 40 missiles, including Iranian-Russian Shahed drones, according to Zelenskyy. The strikes resulted in dozens of injuries and fatalities, including a 12-year-old girl.
“The massive Russian attack on Ukraine lasted for more than 12 hours,” stated Zelenskyy. “Brutal strikes, deliberate and targeted terror against ordinary cities.”
In Kyiv, over 15 locations were damaged, including high-rise residential buildings, particularly in the Solomenskyi district, as mentioned by Timur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, in a Telegram post.
These attacks followed a warning from Zelenskyy to Europe about increased drone activity and airspace intrusions as indicators that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not halt at Ukraine.
“Putin will not wait to finish his war in Ukraine. He will open up some other direction. Nobody knows where,” noted Zelenskyy.
At the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Saturday, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared that Russia has no plans to attack EU or NATO countries, but will give a “decisive response” to any aggression directed at Russia.
