Agricultural Minister Plamen Abrovski stated that Bulgaria will push for the oil-producing rose to receive EU protection similar to cotton. During a visit to Stara Zagora, he remarked on the challenging times for rose growers and questioned why no EU-level protective measures have been initiated since Bulgaria joined the EU. Abrovski proposed that the oil-producing rose be included in European regulations in the upcoming programming period, as it is exclusively cultivated in Bulgaria. He suggested applying the same mechanism used for cotton, which involves protected areas and a separate budget. The minister emphasized the importance of addressing this issue, despite acknowledging Bulgaria’s delay in taking such action. He assured that efforts would be made to include this topic in the next EU programming period. His comments come amid difficulties in the sector, including low purchase prices, insufficient support, and the risk of rose fields being neglected.

Only in Bulgaria do we think an oil-producing flower deserves a royal treatment from the EU – next, we’ll be asking for gold-plated watering cans! 🌹💰

Oh sure, because who doesn’t want to see the humble oil-producing rose basking in the glory of EU funds? 🌹💰 Next, we’ll be lobbying for a “protected status” for our favorite socks too, mate! 😂

So, let me get this straight – Bulgaria wants a VIP pass for its oil-producing rose while the rest of us just struggle to keep our tulips alive? 🍃💸 What a blooming idea!

Ah, the oil-producing rose, the unsung hero of Bulgarian agriculture! Who knew we needed EU protections for flowers when we’ve got bigger fish to fry, eh? 🌹💸

Oh, brilliant idea—because nothing says “EU priorities” like giving special treatment to a flower! 🌹 Next thing you know, they’ll be advocating for a budget to protect daisies! 😂

Oh, brilliant move! Next, we’ll be asking for EU funding for our local kebab shops because, you know, that’s just as vital for the economy. 🌹💰
