Government designates Netanyahu as persona non grata

Ljubljana – On Thursday, the Slovenian government designated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a persona non grata. State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Neva Grašič, stated that this action follows similar measures taken in July against two extreme Israeli ministers, Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich.

Grašič highlighted ongoing proceedings against Netanyahu for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, noting that the International Court of Justice had determined on July 19, 2024, that multiple Israeli policies contravene international humanitarian and human rights law. She referenced a report from an independent inquiry commission of the UN Human Rights Council, which concluded on September 16 that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians.

“This action reaffirms Slovenia’s commitment to international law, universal human rights, and a principled foreign policy,” she stated during a press conference following the government meeting. She clarified that this decision does not target the Israeli population but aims to convey a message to the Israeli government about the expectation to respect international legal rulings and humanitarian law.

Prime Minister Robert Golob indicated at the end of June that Slovenia would collaborate with other like-minded EU member states if the European Union did not implement measures against Israel. He mentioned that collective actions at the EU level would exert greater pressure than individual measures by member states. Slovenia has thus positioned itself among the first European countries to impose concrete sanctions against Israel. (September 25)

Looks like Slovenia is really bringing the heat on Netanyahu, eh? Guess they decided it’s easier to play “who’s not welcome” than deal with actual issues—classic bureaucratic shenanigans! 😂

  2. Fancy that! Slovenia’s got more diplomatic flair than a catwalk in Milan—who knew they were the trendsetters in international snubbing? 🇸🇮🚫

  3. Never thought I’d see the day when Slovenia takes the lead in international diplomacy—what’s next, a cat café in every embassy? 😂 #WorldLeaders

So, Slovenia’s got a new hobby—playing ‘who’s not welcome’ with Netanyahu. Guess they figured a little less diplomacy and a bit more drama would spice up the EU meetings! 😂

  5. Looks like Slovenia’s taken a page out of the “how to win friends and influence people” manual – nothing says diplomacy quite like a good old persona non grata, eh? 😏 Just what the EU needed, another round of political charades! 🃏

  6. Oh, lovely, Slovenia playing the international law card while we’re all just here trying to figure out who’s in charge of the cheese distribution. 🧀 Bravo, really, let’s just hope this doesn’t sour the diplomatic milk too much! 😏

Looks like Slovenia’s playing the diplomatic version of “you’re not invited to the party” – who needs a guest when your policies are an absolute riot, eh? 🤷‍♂️🍷

  8. Not like we needed a *hefty reminder* of who’s in the doghouse, but Slovenia surely knows how to throw a diplomatic curveball, eh? 😂 Makes you wonder if anyone’s got a pen to write an apology letter that isn’t just scribbles on a napkin.

Seems Slovenia’s got a knack for party tricks – first, they ban Netanyahu, next, they’ll be handing out “Best Diplomatic Moves” awards at the local pub. 🍻 Who knew being a persona non grata was such a trendy title?

Looks like Slovenia’s taking a bold stand, or maybe just trying to be the cool kid in the EU playground. 🤷‍♂️ Who knew international relations could be so trendy?
