Earlier this week, Rubio stated that French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to acknowledge Palestinian statehood hindered potential ceasefire discussions between Israel and Hamas. This echoed accusations made last month, claiming Hamas abandoned talks immediately following France’s announcement.
The French Response account highlighted time stamps from social media posts by Macron and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to argue that the negotiations had already failed prior to France’s declaration.
A declaration at a United Nations conference in July, led by France and Saudi Arabia, stated that the recognition of the State of Palestine is vital for achieving a two-state solution.
Additionally, a message from U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff announced the U.S. would exit ceasefire discussions, citing a lack of good faith from Hamas.
Barrot’s ministry is enhancing its ability to identify disinformation through “monitoring hubs” on social media and has created an “automated response account” to counter false allegations, as stated by the minister on BFM TV.
In July, Macron announced France’s recognition of Palestinian statehood, with the U.K., Canada, Australia, and Belgium making similar declarations since then.
