Riverclean, BE Funds Environmental Projects in the Ishëm and Vjosa River Basins in Albania

The European Union Office in Tirana has announced a call for applications from civil society organizations seeking funding for environmental projects under the Riverclean program.

The EU will finance initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable, plastic-free practices within the Ishëm and Vjosa river basin areas.

“This call offers grants of up to 15,000 euros for projects focused on decreasing plastic pollution, enhancing environmental awareness, and promoting innovative waste management solutions in these ecologically sensitive regions,” stated the European Union Office in Tirana.

The deadline for applications is September 8, 2025.

Organizations interested in applying for funding can find more information at: https://milieukontakt.org/call-for-proposal-riverclean

The Riverclean initiative reflects the European Union’s dedication to environmental protection, sustainable development, and empowering civil society to monitor and implement these practices locally.

The EU has supported various projects aimed at sustainably addressing environmental challenges in Albania, coinciding with the country’s opening of membership negotiations. (September 1)

Oh great, another EU initiative to save the rivers – because clearly, plastic has been taking swimming lessons in the Vjosa. 💸 Just what we need, more grants to generate paperwork instead of actual clean water! 😂
