Von der Leyen urges strong deterrence against ‘predator’ Putin, tells Poles

Ursula von der Leyen is visiting several countries, including Poland, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Bulgaria, and Romania, all of which border Russia or Belarus. This marks her largest diplomatic effort on EU security and defense since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. She and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk inspected a newly completed electric fence at the Polish-Belarusian border. Tusk highlighted the border’s importance, comparing it to a historical milestone for liberation from Soviet control 45 years ago. He emphasized solidarity akin to the past Western support during the Solidarity movement. Tusk noted von der Leyen’s visit aimed to rally European support for protecting and investing in this border. Von der Leyen announced plans to propose a roadmap for enhancing the EU’s defense investment, to be discussed in October. Her itinerary also includes meetings with Bulgarian Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov, Romanian President Nicușor Dan, and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda.

Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “let’s deter a predator” like a fancy electric fence and a grand tour of border towns. I suppose next we’ll be building a moat and calling it progress! 😂🛡️

Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “strong deterrence” like a fancy electric fence, right? Because if history has taught us anything, it’s that a good fence makes the best neighbors… or was it the other way round? 😂🔌

Oh brilliant, just what we need—an electric fence! Because clearly, nothing says “we’re ready for war” quite like some zappy wires along the border. ⚡️🇵🇱

  11. So, Ursula’s off on a border tour, making fences the new fashionable accessory, eh? 🤷‍♂️ I guess when in doubt, just build a wall and call it diplomacy!

So, von der Leyen is off on her grand tour, waving the flag and inspecting fences like a modern-day knight. I suppose we need a barricade now, just to remind Putin that we’re not playing hopscotch here, eh? 😏🚧

  13. Looks like Ursula’s on a grand tour of border selfies while we’re all waiting for the real action. Nice electric fence, but hoping it’s not just for show, yeah? 😂🔌
