Romania’s Development Minister, Ceke Atila, announced significant reductions in local and state administration positions. In an Antena3 TV interview, he stated that around 57% of positions, nearly 6,000 employees, will be cut, including advisors to mayors, deputy mayors, and state secretaries.
“Out of the 10,700 positions for local elected officials and top officials, from the prime minister to state secretaries, nearly 6,000 will be eliminated. Mayors will now have one advisor instead of two. Advisor roles for deputy mayors and state secretaries are being removed. Ministers, currently having four advisors, will be reduced to three, and the prime minister will have five instead of eight,” he explained. He also mentioned impending cuts in the police force.
This reform is part of the government’s second fiscal and budgetary measure package under Ilie Bolozhan. Currently, the coalition parties are meeting to finalize its details.
