Slovenian Minister Criticizes U.S. Denial of Visas for Palestinian Delegation Ahead of UN Meeting

Copenhagen – Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon has criticized the U.S. decision to deny visas to Palestinian representatives ahead of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session. During an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Denmark, she anticipates a strong collective response from the EU to this U.S. action.

Upon arriving at the meeting in Copenhagen, Fajon expressed her significant concern regarding the U.S. refusal to grant visas to the Palestinian delegation led by President Mahmoud Abbas for the September general debate at the start of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. Abbas is expected to address both the Security Council and the UN General Assembly, where member states will consider potential new recognitions of Palestine as an independent and sovereign state.

At the meeting, Fajon expects not only a unified response to the U.S. decision but also ongoing discussions about taking action against Israel for human rights violations in Gaza, where Israeli military operations are escalating.

She plans to encourage her fellow ministers to follow Slovenia’s lead, as Slovenia has implemented national measures in the absence of EU action in recent months. These measures include a ban on the import, export, and transit of arms with Israel, a prohibition on goods from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, and the designation of two extreme Israeli ministers as undesirable individuals.

EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas does not foresee a breakthrough in discussions regarding EU-level actions. However, it should be noted that decisions cannot be made during this informal meeting. (August 30)

Oh brilliant, nothing like a game of “who can deny the most visas” before a UN meeting! 😏 Guess Slovenia’s leading the charge in the EU’s grand strategy of doing absolutely nothing—how very avant-garde!

Oh, brilliant move, really! Denying visas to the Palestinians is such a clever way to ensure a lively UN meeting—nothing like a bit of diplomatic drama to spice up the proceedings, eh? 😏💼

Typical, innit? Just when you think the land of the free might let some voices in, they slam the door shut like a bad episode of a sitcom. 🙄

Seems like the U.S. is auditioning for a role in “The Exclusion Zone,” while Slovenia is handing out the “Why Bother?” awards. 🎭 Who knew diplomacy could be so… selective? 😏

Looks like the U.S. is playing hide and seek with the Palestinian delegation—who knew diplomacy came with a “no entry” sign? 🤷‍♂️ Meanwhile, I guess Tanja Fajon’s got her work cut out for her; let’s hope her collective responses pack more punch than a stale baguette! 🥖

Looks like the U.S. is keeping the guest list tighter than a Danish pastry at a tea party. But hey, who needs diplomatic discourse when you can just deny access, right? 😏

Seems like the U.S. just can’t resist playing the gatekeeper at the UN, eh? Maybe they think a ‘no entry’ sign will solve all the world’s issues—classic! 😂

Oh, look at Slovenia getting all worked up over a little visa drama! Maybe next time they’ll just send a postcard instead of expecting the US to play nice at the UN. 😂✈️

Typical, innit? The U.S. playing gatekeeper while the EU’s sitting around like it’s a coffee break, discussing who’s got the best biscuits! 🍪🇸🇮

Imagine that, eh? A foreign minister slinging shade at the U.S. while her own country’s got more restrictions than a hipster café in Berlin. 🤷‍♂️ Good luck with that collective response, Tanja; it’s like trying to herd cats in a snowstorm.

Guess we’re just handing out visas like candy now, aren’t we? 🎉 Nothing says ‘diplomacy’ quite like a collective EU tantrum over a visa denial. 🤷‍♂️

  12. Coz, who needs diplomatic relations when you can just play the visa game, right? 🇺🇸✈️ Looks like the U.S. is really rolling out the red carpet for international dialogue… if by “red carpet” you mean a big ol’ “nope!” 😏

Seems like the U.S. is really upping their game in the “let’s make international relations a circus” department. Maybe they think a magic trick will solve the whole visa thing? 🎩🤷‍♂️

Oh, fantastic, nothing says diplomatic finesse like denying visas to a whole delegation—just what we need before a big UN shindig! 🍷 Here’s to hoping the EU can muster up more than just a sternly worded letter this time! 🥴

Looks like the U.S. is playing a game of ‘Who Wants to be Excluded?’ at the UN. Maybe next time they can send out a memo with a proper guest list instead of leaving folks at the door like it’s some posh nightclub in London. 🍸🙄

Oh, lovely, another day of diplomatic shenanigans. How thrilling to see Slovenia playing the hero while the EU collectively twiddles its thumbs—surely the U.S. is quaking in their boots at the thought of a “strong” response! 😂

Seems like the U.S. is really rolling out the red carpet for diplomacy—who knew denying visas was the new way to foster international relations? 😂 Just what we need, more drama on the world stage!
