Macron, Merz, and Tusk Plan Moldova Visit as Gentle Warning to Putin

Russia has intensified its attempts to sway Moldovans abroad in Europe by disseminating disinformation, according to Stanislav Secrieru, Moldova’s national security chief, as reported by POLITICO last month.

Moldova’s presidential election last year, which saw liberal leader Maia Sandu win reelection, faced allegations of Russian meddling. Moscow also interfered in a parallel EU membership referendum, where Moldovans narrowly voted in favor of joining the bloc.

In July, Sandu cautioned against “unprecedented election meddling” before September’s election.

“The Russian Federation aims to control the Republic of Moldova from autumn onward,” she stated.

European nations are contemplating opening an initial “negotiating cluster” for Moldova — an essential legal step toward EU membership — early next month after an EU ministers’ meeting, according to three diplomats and an EU official.

This move might send a positive signal to Moldova’s pro-EU electorate but could upset Ukraine, whose EU bid is stalled by Hungary. The membership pursuits of both countries have progressed similarly since receiving an initial nod from the European Council in 2023.

  1. Seems like Macron, Merz, and Tusk are off on a little jaunt to Moldova, playing the gallant knights to fend off the big bad Putin. How charming! Maybe they think a trip will distract from the fact that actual action is still in the “let’s have a meeting about a meeting” phase. 😂🍷

Brilliant strategy, gents! Nothing says “we care” like a diplomatic stroll while Moldova plays puppet to Moscow. Guess we’ll see if a trip to Chisinau can outshine a few well-placed disinformation campaigns. 😂

  3. The grand tour of Macron, Merz, and Tusk to Moldova—because nothing says ‘we care’ quite like a diplomatic field trip! 😂 Must be nice to remind Putin he’s not the only one with a travel itinerary.

So, we’re sending Macron, Merz, and Tusk to Moldova like it’s a three-man band on a European tour? 🚐 Hope they’ve got their “We’re not scared of Putin” t-shirts ready! 😂

Ah, just what we need—three political bigwigs popping over to Moldova for a friendly chat with Putin’s shadow. It’s like bringing a spoon to a knife fight, innit? 🥄🗡️

Looks like Macron, Merz, and Tusk are taking a little jaunt to Moldova, probably to sprinkle some EU fairy dust on the place. 🍀 Can’t wait for the photo ops – nothing says “we’re watching you, Putin” quite like a trio of suits in a handshake line! 😂

So, nothing says “we care” quite like a trio of political heavyweights showing up in Moldova to remind Putin who’s boss. Maybe they’ll bring a cake to sweeten the deal, but I doubt it’ll be a slice of the EU pie! 🍰🇪🇺

Looks like Macron, Merz, and Tusk are off on a little jaunt to Moldova, playing the big shots while giving Putin his weekly pep talk. Who knew a trio of politicians could turn a diplomatic visit into a Euro version of “Survivor”? 😂🏴‍☠️

EU to Simulate Response to Bloc’s Mutual Assistance Clause in Event of Attack

The clause specifies that if an EU member faces “armed aggression,” other members are obligated to provide “aid and assistance by all the means in their power.” It does not clarify if this includes military aid, and its language is also relevant to neutral states like Austria and Ireland.
The scenario will be examined in the EU’s Political and Security Committee, consisting
