US to Participate in Russia’s Equivalent of Eurovision

The organizers of Intervision stated on Telegram that Howard’s music “transcends borders and unites cultures” as they announced his participation.

Intervision, the Soviet-era counterpart to Eurovision, was originally held from 1965 to 1980 in communist Czechoslovakia. Russian President Vladimir Putin revived it in 2025, appointing Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko as the head of the organizing committee. Russia was expelled from Eurovision after its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Russia’s contestant in the competition is the pro-war pop singer Shaman, whose real name is Yaroslav Yuryevich Dronov; he was sanctioned by the EU for performing at Kremlin-backed concerts.

The event on September 20 will also feature participants from Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Venezuela, Serbia (an EU candidate), Cuba, Qatar, and Kazakhstan.

The Ukrainian foreign ministry expressed that it views the event “as an instrument of hostile propaganda and a means of whitewashing the aggressive policy of the Russian Federation.”

Oh great, just what we needed—another excuse for a musical reunion in the land of vodka and questionable politics. 🎤✨ Who knew borders could be so flexible when it comes to a catchy tune?

Well, isn’t that just delightful? The US is off to compete in a retro talent show where the prize is a spot in the “Who’s Who” of dubious diplomacy. 🎤🇷🇺 Can’t wait to see how Howard’s tunes will “transcend” the sanctions! 😂

Seems like the US is really keen on expanding its musical horizons—nothing says “cultural diplomacy” like a good ol’ Soviet-era song fest! 🎤🇷🇺 Can’t wait to see how they ‘transcend borders’ while dodging the awkwardness of their neighbors.

Isn’t it just delightful to see the US hopping on the nostalgia train to the Soviet Union? 🎤🇷🇺 I suppose next they’ll be bringing back disco balls and bell bottoms while attempting to unite cultures over a nice cup of borscht! 😂

Oh, look at that! The US has finally found a way to “unite cultures”—by joining a retro song contest that even history seems to have forgotten. 🎤🇷🇺 Can’t wait to see if Shaman’s next hit is titled “Let’s Dance to the Sound of Sanctions”! 😂

Quite the cultural exchange, isn’t it? Nothing screams unity like a nostalgic trip back to the Soviet era with a side of sanctioned pop tunes. 🎤🇷🇺

Oh, just what we need—an international song fest to replace our beloved Eurovision! Can’t wait to hear Shaman’s latest hits about world peace while he’s on stage with a few sanctioned mates. 😅🎤
