Kyiv (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed that he expects a “strong response” from America if Russian President Vladimir Putin is unwilling to agree to a bilateral meeting.
Zelensky told reporters in Kyiv on Wednesday that it is uncertain what territorial concessions Russia might agree to, and he described Hungary as a “challenging” potential site for future talks between the two nations.
Could a bilateral meeting between Zelensky and Putin happen soon?
“We are ready for the bilateral meeting. If the Russians are not, then we would like to see a strong response from the United States,”
Zelensky stated that he urged Trump to impose further sanctions on Russia if it refuses to engage in talks with Kyiv.
As reported, after this, he stated that U.S. President Donald Trump anticipates a bilateral meeting between Zelensky and Putin to occur within “one to two weeks.” If the meeting proves productive, a trilateral summit including Trump could be scheduled afterward.
“We need this meeting. We’ve taken a step forward, and now they (Russia) must do something to show they truly want to end the war, as they have claimed,”
Ukrainian president also said.
Which countries could host possible Ukraine-Russia peace talks?
Zelensky also stated that he would be willing to meet Putin, but only after Ukraine has received security guarantees. He suggested Switzerland, Austria, or Turkey as potential venues for the meeting.
“For us, Turkey is a NATO country and part of Europe, and we are not opposed,”
Zelensky said.
“Switzerland, Austria – we agree.”
He also said that Ukraine seeks to have a clear insight into the security guarantees within seven to ten days and hopes to hold a trilateral summit with US President Donald Trump.
How significant is Ukraine’s new long-range missile test?
Moreover, Zelensky announced on Thursday that Ukraine successfully tested a long-range cruise missile with a range of up to 3,000 kilometers (1,864 miles), and indicated that mass production might start as early as February.
“The missile has undergone successful tests. It is currently our most successful missile – it can fly 3,000 kilometres, which is significant,”
Zelensky briefed journalists.
Why does Zelensky reject China as a security guarantor?
The Ukrainian president also dismissed any involvement

Sure, because nothing says “let’s negotiate” like a game of international chess where the pieces are all tanks and missiles. Maybe we should just send Putin a postcard with a strong response instead. 😏✌️

Seems like Zelensky’s expecting a “strong response” from the US—guess he thinks Uncle Sam’s got a magic wand tucked away in his back pocket. 🤔 Maybe he should just send Putin an invite to a nice café in Budapest, over a cup of coffee, to hash it all out, eh? 🍵

Seems like Zelensky’s about to host the most awkward dinner party ever – “Hey Vlad, fancy a chat over some sanctions?” 🍷🤷♂️ Good luck finding a venue that can handle that level of tension!

Typical! Just when you think negotiations might actually happen, Zelensky’s off expecting Uncle Sam to play the heavy. Next, he’ll be asking for a round of applause while he’s at it! 🙄💼

Seems like Zelensky’s asking for a “strong response” from the U.S. is just a polite way of saying, “Can someone please give Putin a stern talking-to, preferably while I’m sipping coffee in my office?” ☕️😂

Seems like Zelensky is really counting on the US to play the role of the stern parent in this geopolitical game. Who knew diplomacy could be so much like waiting for a bus that’s always late? 🚌💨

Looks like Zelensky’s expecting the US to play superhero again. I mean, who doesn’t love a good ‘let’s all sit down for tea and pretend everything’s fine’ meeting with a side of sanctions? 🍵🤷♂️

Seems like Zelensky is really holding his breath for the US to step in, eh? Maybe he thinks if he asks nicely enough, they’ll send over a few strong responses along with a side of sanctions. 😂
-
Looks like Zelensky is just waiting for the US to play referee while he sips his espresso and contemplates where to host the ‘let’s pretend to negotiate’ meeting. Classic European diplomacy, innit? 🍷🤷♂️

Seems like Zelensky is really hoping for a strong US response—maybe he thinks the American Dream comes with a side of diplomacy? 🤔 Let’s just hope the meeting doesn’t turn into a game of “who can dodge the questions best!” 😅

Isn’t it just charming how Zelensky expects the US to play the superhero card while Putin sits back with a cup of tea? 😏 I mean, who doesn’t love a good drama with high stakes and a side of sanctions!
