Treaty Negotiations on Plastic Pollution Are Prolonged

Geneva (Switzerland) – On Thursday, negotiators from 185 nations engaged in intense discussions in an effort to bridge significant differences and create the first global treaty to address plastic pollution.

In a message on X, French President Emmanuel Macron urged the adoption of a text that reflects the urgency of the current environmental and health crisis.

However, the likelihood of reaching a consensus appears low due to the substantial divisions between the opposing sides. Kenyan Environment Minister Deborah Barasa proposed the idea of finalizing a treaty now and addressing specific details at a later date. (August 14, 2025)

  1. Oh sure, because what’s better than saving the planet? A good old-fashioned debate that could make a snail look speedy! 🐌🌍

Just what we need, more talk about plastic while the planet drowns in the stuff. Maybe we should just hand out straws for the next two years and call it a summit, eh? 😏💼

Negotiating a treaty on plastic pollution? Sounds like a jolly good time—next thing you know, we’ll be solving world hunger over a cup of tea ☕️. Maybe we should just add a “procrastination clause” and call it a day! 😏

Oh, fantastic, more talks about plastic while we’re all drowning in it—how very European of us! 🥳 Let’s just pencil in a treaty for 2025; after all, what’s a few years when you’re saving the planet, right? 😂

Oh, brilliant! Who knew saving the planet could take longer than a Swiss watch to fix? 🌍⏳ Let’s just chat about it for a decade or two, shall we? 🤷‍♂️

Classic! 185 nations can’t even agree on a frothy cappuccino order, but sure, let’s tackle plastic pollution over the next decade or so. 🥴🇪🇺
