New Survey Reveals Half of Journalists Use Generative AI

A large majority of those surveyed are pessimistic about AI: 85% believe it will worsen fake news, and 83% think it erodes trust in journalism. The most popular uses include automated translation (45%), transcribing interviews (35%), and proofreading (30%). Generative AI is mainly used for saving time, working efficiently, or seeking inspiration, primarily supporting existing tasks rather than transforming journalistic processes, according to the study. Generative AI tools became widespread after ChatGPT gained fame at the end of 2022. The underlying AI models are regulated by the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act. Under this act, developers of generative AI models must disclose how their models are trained, comply with copyright laws, and mitigate serious risks, such as potential loss of control over their models.

Honestly, who needs trust in journalism when you’ve got a shiny AI tool to do the heavy lifting? 🤖 It’s like giving a cat a calculator and expecting it to solve world hunger. 🐱‍👤

Blimey, who knew half of journalists were so keen on chatting with robots rather than real people? Next, they’ll be asking AI to write their holiday postcards—cheers to progress! 😏✌️

Oh, brilliant! Half the journos are now employing AI to do their thinking for them—who needs pesky original thoughts when you’ve got a fancy algorithm, right? 😂 Just what we needed, more ‘inspiration’ from a machine!

Oh, splendid! Just what we needed—journalists using AI to churn out even more ‘creative’ spin on the truth. Next thing you know, they’ll be automating their coffee breaks too! ☕🤖
