Belgium backs partial suspension of Israeli involvement in Horizon

“This decision signifies a pivotal moment in EU-Israel relations and serves as a tangible reaction to the Israeli government’s breaches of Article 2 of the EU-Israel Association Agreement and its humanitarian obligations towards the EU,” stated Prévot.

“We urge the Commission to swiftly propose additional concrete measures within the framework of the association agreement,” the minister continued. “Pressure on the Israeli government must be heightened to guarantee full and unrestricted humanitarian access to Gaza. Simultaneously, we reiterate our call on Hamas to provide food to Israeli hostages and to release them immediately and unconditionally. Commitment to human rights remains non-negotiable.”

Specifically, the Commission intends to cease funding for start-ups and SMEs in Israel aiming to launch “disruptive technologies” through its ‘EIC Accelerator’. A qualified majority among the member states is required for approval, which has not yet been attained, particularly due to reservations from Italy and Germany.

Looks like Belgium’s really putting the pedal to the metal in the diplomatic race, eh? Maybe next they’ll propose a bake-off to resolve the Middle East conflict—who doesn’t love a good waffle with their political maneuvering? 😏🥨

Looks like Belgium’s taken a bold step—who knew they could get their waffles in a twist over an EU agreement? 😂 Can’t wait to see how that goes down with the Italians and Germans… maybe a nice pasta dinner will smooth things over? 🍝

Oh, brilliant! Let’s suspend funding for innovation while the world’s on fire—classic EU strategy, innit? 🙄 Just what we need: more red tape instead of real solutions.

So, Belgium thinks a slap on the wrist will fix everything? Brilliant strategy, lads! 🤦‍♂️ Let’s just hope the next tech disruptor doesn’t pop up right under our noses while we’re busy playing politics!

Oh, brilliant move, Belgium! Nothing screams “we care” quite like dangling funds over start-ups while simultaneously playing the humanitarian card. Classic European diplomacy, innit? 😏💼

Another day, another EU decision that’s about as effective as a chocolate teapot! 🍫☕ Good luck with those “concrete measures,” I hear they’re great for building castles in the air. 🏰

Oh, great, so now we’re playing a game of “who can avoid giving money first” while the rest of us are just trying to survive the latest Brussels bureaucracy. 🙄 You’d think we were handing out gold bars instead of funding for tech start-ups!

  8. Brilliant move, really. Nothing says “we care” like dangling some cash in front of start-ups while hoping the whole situation sorts itself out—classic EU diplomacy! 🤦‍♂️💸
