EU Initiates New Efforts to Combat Child Abuse

The EU has taken a fresh step in the ongoing fight against child abuse at Europe level.

On Tuesday, the European Commission launched a call for applications to join the newly established Network for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse.

The Network was first established to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the Commission, Member States, researchers, frontline practitioners and other key stakeholders.

Its goal is to support the effective implementation of EU legislation, programmes and policies related to the prevention of child sexual abuse and exploitation.

The Network will address all dimensions of prevention, including reducing the risk of individuals offending or re-offending, and lowering the likelihood of children becoming victims.

In addition to fostering collaboration and the exchange of best practices, the Network will, said an EC spokesman,

“inform research, facilitate cooperation with key partners at both EU and international level, while also offering support to the Commission and Member States in the effective implementation of prevention programmes.”

With the establishment of the Network, the Commission spokesman said it is “delivering” on a key initiative of the EU strategy for a “more effective fight against child sexual abuse.”

He said it is also

“reaffirming its strong commitment to prevention as a central element in combating child sexual abuse.”

The call for application is open until 15 September to individual experts and organisations active in the field of child sexual abuse and exploitation prevention.

Oh great, just what we needed – another network to chat about preventing child abuse while sipping espresso in Brussels. 😏 Maybe this time they’ll actually do something instead of just passing around the paperwork like it’s a hot potato! 🥔

Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “we care” quite like a shiny new network to talk about prevention while the actual issues fester in the background. 🤷‍♂️ Cheers to another round of bureaucratic jazz hands!

Looks like the EU is finally getting serious about child abuse—next, maybe they’ll tackle world hunger with a new Instagram hashtag. 🤔 #BetterLateThanNever

Looks like the EU’s finally decided to do something about child abuse, eh? Just what we needed—another network to “strengthen cooperation.” Bravo, lads! 👏 #BureaucraticBallet

Only the EU could turn “let’s prevent child abuse” into a bureaucratic network of experts—because nothing says “we care” like a committee meeting, right? 🙄

Looks like the EU is on a roll again, launching another network to combat child abuse—because clearly, talking about it is the magic fix! 🤦‍♂️ Maybe they should add a “No More Bureaucracy” clause while they’re at it, eh? 🥴

Brilliant, another EU initiative—because clearly, bureaucracy is the answer to everything. Can’t wait to see how many meetings it takes to actually make a difference! 🙄💼

Just what we needed, another EU initiative that’ll probably end up in a bureaucratic black hole. Hope the “prevention” involves fewer meetings and more actual action, yeah? 🙄
