Aide to Far-Right German Lawmaker on Trial for Alleged Spying for China

German prosecutors have charged an alleged accomplice, Jaqi X., who worked for a logistics company at Leipzig airport. She is suspected of providing Jian G. with information about flights, cargo, and passengers, particularly regarding the transportation of military equipment and individuals linked to a German arms company.

Jian G. was arrested in April 2024 and has remained in pretrial detention, while Jaqi X. has been in pretrial detention since September 2024.

Krah, AfD’s top candidate in the previous year’s European election, is under a separate investigation for allegedly accepting payments from Russia and China during his time as a member of the European Parliament.

Krah denied any knowledge of his former assistant’s activities and claimed he was “deceived.” He will testify as a witness in Jian G.’s trial.

The trial will continue until the end of September, with further hearings scheduled for this week.

Looks like someone forgot to read the memo on “keeping your spies close but your far-right lawmakers closer.” 🤷‍♂️ Just another day in the circus that is European politics, eh? 🥳
