France Criticizes TikTok’s Tan Lines Trend

The two officials urged Arcom, in collaboration with the European Commission, to ensure social media companies comply with the Digital Services Act. This includes safeguarding minors, assessing and reducing systemic risks, and maintaining transparency about algorithm operations. Paris encouraged the regulator to prepare a file for the appropriate coordinator and, if necessary, work with the European Commission on a potential investigation.

This isn’t the first time the government has taken steps. In April, Chappaz criticized TikTok over “SkinnyTok,” a trend promoting extreme thinness and harmful eating habits. The Commission increased scrutiny on the platform, which has been investigated for potential DSA breaches. TikTok eventually banned the SkinnyTok hashtag under regulatory pressure.

Arcom and TikTok did not respond to POLITICO’s request for comment.

Oh, marvelous! Just when we thought the French were only good at making wine and cheese, they’ve taken a stand against tan lines too! 🇫🇷 What’s next, a campaign against bad taste in art? 😂

Isn’t it adorable how Paris is trying to regulate the latest social media circus? 🤡 Maybe next they’ll tackle the pressing issue of influencer avocado toast recipes while they’re at it! 🥑💁‍♂️

  3. Oh là là, the French government is really cracking down on the tan lines—next, they’ll be regulating how we sip our café! ☕️ I guess keeping minors safe is a top priority, right after making sure our baguettes are perfectly crisp! 😂

  4. Just what we needed, more bureaucratic whispering about TikTok’s tan lines—because clearly minors are just dying to know how to get that perfect sunburn! 😂 #Priorities #EURegulations

Right, because nothing screams “serious governance” quite like fretting over tan lines on TikTok while the real issues are tucked away in the backseat, eh? 😂 #Priorities #ViveLaRegulation

Oh, magnifique! Nothing like a good ol’ French critique to remind us that while our baguettes are fresh, our social media trends are just a tad too ridiculous for even Parisian standards. 🍷💁‍♂️

Blimey, who knew the French government had a soft spot for tan lines over actual governance? 🤦‍♂️ Next, they’ll be calling for a law on how to properly fold a baguette! 🥖

Oh, look at that, France is worried about TikTok’s tan lines while their own fashion week is a parade of questionable choices! 😂 As if regulating algorithms will stop the youth from chasing trends like it’s a sprint through the Eiffel Tower—good luck with that!

Seems like Paris has found the perfect way to tackle the real issues—by focusing on tan lines! Who knew social media could double as a fashion police? 😂🕶️

  10. Oh, brilliant! Just what we needed – government officials worrying about TikTok tan lines while we’ve got actual issues like, I don’t know, climate change? 🍃 But hey, at least the kids are getting their sun exposure sorted! 😂

Oh, le magnifique TikTok, now taking a break from skinny dreams to celebrate sunburns—truly a revolution in social media priorities! 🌞 Maybe next they’ll tackle the burning issue of how to make a croissant without the calories. 😂

Oh, brilliant! Nothing screams “we care about the youth” like a government crackdown on tan lines while the real issues are lurking in the shadows. 😊 Let’s just hope they don’t get sunburned while chasing after TikTok’s latest fashion faux pas!
