Lucia Yar: RE Group Slovak MEPs Advocate for Increased Seven-Year EU Budget

Brussels – The latest proposal for the European budget has raised numerous questions. This marks the first proposal from the European Commission (EC), and the European Parliament (EP) will take it into consideration, as the budget’s final form will be negotiated over the next two years. In a Thursday interview with TASR, MEP Lucia Yar (RE/PS), the sole Slovak MEP on the EP Committee on Budgets and its vice-chair, commented on this matter.

Yar highlighted her support for elements of the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) proposal that benefit citizens, such as prioritizing defense at the European level and increasing the budget for this sector. She also advocated for expanding the Erasmus+ program to enable students to study abroad with enhanced scholarships.

Starting Thursday, negotiations between the European Parliament and the EU Council (member states) commenced on the long-term budget proposal for 2028 to 2034. Yar emphasized that Slovak MEPs from the centrist Renew Europe (RE) group would wield significantly more influence throughout the process compared to the non-attached MEPs from Smer-SD and Hlas-SD.

“As the vice-chair of the budget committee, I am committed to advocating for increased EU funds for Slovak regions, addressing payment discrepancies for farmers in comparison to those in Western countries, and securing essential funding for security,” she stated. She also underscored her political group’s ambition to push for a substantially larger seven-year budget than the two trillion euros proposed by the EU executive on Wednesday.

“We are experiencing geopolitical shifts, and Europe faces pressures from various fronts – Russia, China, and the USA. A strong Europe with a robust budget is essential to navigate these challenges,” she concluded. (July 17)

“As the vice-chair of the budget committee, I also want to fight for more EU funds for Slovak regions, for equalizing payment differences for farmers compared to Western countries, but also for key funding for security.” Lucia Yar

Looks like Lucia’s got her work cut out for her, trying to squeeze more euros out of a budget that’s tighter than a pair of lederhosen after Oktoberfest! 🍻 Who knew that defending the continent would come at such a cost, eh?

Oh great, just what we need, another budget proposal that sounds about as thrilling as watching paint dry. 🎨 But hey, let’s throw in some extra cash for defense and Erasmus, because nothing says ‘European unity’ like a fancy scholarship while dodging geopolitical shenanigans! 💸

So, let me get this straight: we’re extending budgets longer than most of my business trips, all while hoping to fix the finances of farmers who probably spend more on coffee than I do on my fancy suits? Classic EU, innit? 😏💶

Oh great, just what we need, another budget proposal to fuel endless debates and meetings in Brussels. Let’s hope they allocate some funds for more coffee breaks, since we all know that’s where the real negotiations happen! ☕️💼

Incredible, isn’t it? A seven-year budget proposal that sounds like a romantic comedy plot: lots of drama, endless negotiations, and the same characters popping up for what feels like the millionth time. 🍿

Incredible, isn’t it? A budget so grand it could fund a space mission, and yet we’re still arguing over who gets to keep the lights on in the regional pigsty. 🐖💸

So, more EU funds for Slovak regions and a bigger budget than two trillion? Brilliant! Just what we need—another round of debates while the rest of us just try to figure out how to keep our coffee prices from rising further. ☕💸

Oh sure, let’s just whip up a budget as big as my last tax bill, because who needs to prioritize actual citizens over a fancy defense fund, right? 😏💰

Typical EU, always finding ways to spend our hard-earned euros on more bureaucracy instead of, I don’t know, fixing the roads? 🚧 But hey, more money for Erasmus – because what we really need is students studying how to spend even more of our taxes! 😂

Oh, brilliant! Because who wouldn’t want to throw more euros into the bottomless pit of bureaucracy while pretending it’s all for the good of the people? 😏🥳
