The European Commission confirmed it was aiming to meet a Wednesday deadline set by Trump to finalize an agreement in principle that would include a 10 percent baseline tariff.
“We’re aiming for July 9 to achieve at least an agreement in principle with the U.S.,” said Olof Gill, the Commission’s trade spokesperson, during the midday briefing.
Gill mentioned that discussions were at “the beginning of the endgame” for reaching an agreement in principle. “We are fully committed to securing an agreement in principle by Wednesday and are working intensively towards that goal,” he added.
