Linter’s First Sports Zone Since 1970, Led by Mayor Winants

Linter (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Linter laid the first stone for a new sports zone, its first major investment since 1970. Mayor Marc Winants leads the project, which includes fields, a hall, and the benefits club KSV Drieslinter.

As VRT News reported, Today, July 4, 2025, in Linter, the first stone for a long-planned sports and recreation zone was put in place. Mayor Marc Winants of CD&V said he felt proud and relieved. He reminded everyone that work on the idea started back in 2015.

Many plans, delays and checks followed, but now building can truly start. The mayor said the job matters not only for its size. He thinks the zone will be finished next year and will welcome people of every age.

What will Linter’s first sports zone in 50 years bring?

According to officials, this new project is very important because it is the first big investment in sports and culture in Linter since 1970, which is more than 50 years ago. Mayor Winants said it was long overdue and very much needed to help the local community grow stronger and make life better for everyone. The plan includes new sports facilities, open areas, and rooms that can be used for events or group activities.

The new sports and recreation zone in Linter, Belgium will have much more than just one football field.  There will be a new building with large changing rooms, modern showers, and a big hall. This hall can be used for indoor sports, group meetings, or local events. Outside, the town is building several full-sized artificial grass fields.

Officials mentioned that these fields can be used often without getting damaged. There will also be a petanque court and a soft Finnish track for walking or running around the area. To avoid traffic problems during busy times, there will be a big parking lot with space for 150 cars.

Dominik Dupont from the club says the number of young players has grown fast. Because of that, many age groups had to use the same old natural grass field and small, outdated changing rooms. He says the new artificial fields and larger changing areas will make a big difference.

Dupont thinks these changes will bring in more young players and help everyone improve their skills. It will also help the club grow from youth to senior level. For Drieslinter and the whole town, the new complex brings not only better sports areas but also new energy, pride, and hope for the future.

Finally, Linter’s getting a sports zone after half a century! I guess it takes more time to build a football field than to negotiate a Brexit deal, eh? ⚽😏

Finally, Linter’s getting a sports zone! After 50 years, guess they needed a few more meetings and a bit of Belgian procrastination to realize we need more than just a field of dreams…or nightmares. 🙄⚽️

Finally, Linter gets a sports zone after half a century; who knew all it took was a mayor with a decade of dreams and a penchant for delays? 🥳 Sounds like the perfect place to discuss the weather while running laps on pristine artificial grass! 🇧🇪
