Moldova-EU Summit Scheduled for July 4 in Chisinau

Chisinau – The inaugural Moldova-EU summit is scheduled for July 4 in Chisinau. This new dialogue format, expected to be regular, signifies the strengthening relations between Moldova and the European Union and indicates progress in the European integration journey, as stated by the Moldovan Presidency.

Moldovan President, Maia Sandu, discussed the forthcoming summit with the EU ambassador in Chisinau, Janis Mazeiks, during a meeting on June 18.

They also focused on the status of the accession process, particularly the alignment of national laws with European standards. Judicial reform, a crucial commitment for Moldova, was highlighted, with the President affirming the government’s intention to enhance a just and efficient judicial system for the benefit of its citizens.

With parliamentary elections approaching this fall, the potential for external interference in the electoral process was also raised. The President underscored the necessity of conducting free elections devoid of foreign influence, enabling Moldovan citizens to choose their future democratically.

Moldova applied for EU membership in March 2022, following the onset of the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine, and began its accession negotiations in June 2024.

In a report adopted in Strasbourg on Wednesday, the European Parliament recognized the progress made by the Moldovan government in meeting EU enlargement criteria and urged the European Commission to bolster its support for Moldova’s accession efforts.

“We commend Moldova’s steadfast commitment to EU integration and recognize its strategic significance for Europe. The Moldovan authorities have shown exceptional resolve in pursuing reforms and aligning with EU principles, despite considerable challenges and external pressures from the Kremlin and its affiliates,” remarked the EP rapporteur on this matter, Sven Mikser.

On March 17, during a speech in the national parliament, President Maia Sandu declared that Moldova aims to become an EU member by 2030.

During his first official visit abroad on June 11, Romanian President Nicuşor Dan reaffirmed Romania’s support for Moldova’s EU accession.

“This is my first official bilateral visit as President of Romania, and I wanted it to be here. We share a unique and heartfelt relationship. My presence signifies Romania’s ongoing support for Moldova. This is a pivotal moment for Moldova as it embarks on the EU accession process. Clearly, we uphold the same values and share common aspirations,” emphasized the Romanian head of state. (19.6.2025)

Oh, a summit on July 4th in Chisinau? How utterly original! Nothing screams ‘European integration’ like a bureaucratic chat while everyone else is busy celebrating Independence Day with a barbecue. 🍖🍻

Oh, a summit on July 4 in Chisinau? Nothing screams “Independence Day” like discussing EU accession over a plate of borscht! 🍲 Let’s hope they bring fireworks, not just the political kind! 🎆

Oh, a summit in Chisinau on July 4th? Nothing screams “we’re serious about joining the EU” quite like a flashy meeting with diplomats while juggling judicial reforms and election worries. 🍷🇲🇩 Let’s hope they don’t serve borscht, or we might get too comfortable!

A summit on July 4th in Chisinau? How original – nothing says “we’re serious about integration” like a date that screams BBQ and fireworks. 🇲🇩💥 Good luck aligning those national laws, though; it’s not like they’re trying to fit a round peg in a square hole or anything… 😏

Barcelona’s approach to mandating hotel stays over local accommodations will exacerbate rather than alleviate overtourism. As tourist numbers surge and non-hotel options dwindle, congestion in the city’s hotel areas will worsen.
History demonstrates this pattern. Both Amsterdam and Barcelona imposed short-term rental restrictions in 2018 due to overtourism concerns, resulting in a drop
