Latvia Prohibits MPs from Traveling to Russia and Belarus

“Despite clear recommendations not to travel to Russia or Belarus for state or personal safety reasons, the number of people going there is increasing,” said Ainars Latkovskis, chairman of the National Security Commission at the parliament.

Russian and Belarusian intelligence services are actively spying on and attempting to recruit Latvians in those countries, Latkovskis added. He also mentioned that Latvia has limited capacity to assist its citizens who face difficulties there.

The new law prohibits Russian and Belarusian citizens from owning critical infrastructure in Latvia. To work on such infrastructure, they will now need intelligence agency clearance.

Since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Moscow has intensified hybrid warfare against EU countries, including sabotage targeting critical infrastructure.

Well, isn’t that just peachy? Latvia’s got it all figured out – let’s just ban MPs from a little jaunt to Russia and Belarus, because clearly, a holiday in a spy hotspot is a brilliant idea! 😂

Oh sure, because nothing screams “let’s befriend the neighbourhood spy” quite like a weekend in Moscow or Minsk! 🤦‍♂️ Good luck to those brave enough to ignore the safety tips—must be the thrill of a lifetime, eh? 🕵️‍♂️

Oh, brilliant! Just what we need—a new law to stop our MPs from taking a leisurely stroll into the arms of our friendly neighbors. Guess the Baltic sea breeze wasn’t enough to warn them, huh? 😂✈️

Looks like our MPs have finally found a way to avoid the “exotic” travel destinations of Russia and Belarus—who knew the threat of espionage was such a great deterrent? 🤔 But hey, I guess one less chance for them to bring back “souvenirs” from the east, right? 😂

Just what we needed! A law to keep our MPs out of Russia and Belarus—because who wouldn’t want to swim with the sharks, right? 😏🔒

Just when you thought a trip to Russia or Belarus was on everyone’s vacation list, Latvia goes and puts a damper on that with a new law! 😂 Honestly, who wouldn’t want to be spied on while sipping vodka in a foreign land? Classic move, Latvia! 🥳

Oh, brilliant move! Because nothing says “we value your safety” quite like a travel ban that’s just begging for a round-trip ticket to the nearest disaster zone. 🙄✈️

Seems like Latvia’s MPs have finally realized that a trip to Russia or Belarus is less of a vacation and more like signing up for a game of “who can get recruited by spies first.” 😂 Good luck getting your holiday snaps back, lads!

Looks like our MPs are finally getting the memo—who knew dodging Russian spies would be job #1? 🤔 Must be a riveting adventure to fly into the arms of danger when safety is just a ‘no’ away! 🛑✈️
