Beersel – The municipality of Beersel has launched a new contest giving residents the chance to win a fully-sponsored neighbourhood party, part of its initiative to strengthen community bonds and enhance local engagement.
In honor of European Neighbours Day, Beersel is encouraging its citizens to build stronger ties with those living around them through a unique competition. Residents are invited to snap a photo with their neighbors — that’s all it takes to enter for a chance to win.
This marks the first official celebration of European Neighbours Day in Beersel. To support the event, the municipality is distributing free “neighbour packages” filled with fun and symbolic items, such as a sticker and a poster to hang in the window.
“This way you can show your neighbours that you are a supportive neighbour,”
says Lora Hasenbroekx (Lijst Burgemeester), the alderman for Neighbourhood Activities.
“That way they know they can come to you for a listening ear, or even for help — whether it’s with errands or job-related support.”
As part of the festivities, the municipality has also organized a contest where one lucky group of neighbours will win a complete neighbourhood party. To enter, residents must submit their neighborly photo before June 20th.
“It could be something simple — a fun selfie with your neighbour, for example. Make it as creative or quirky as you like. We’ll then select one winning photo.”
The goal is to break the ice and inspire residents to connect with the people who live closest to them.
“We believe strong, vibrant neighbourhoods begin with strong local connections — and that starts on your own street.”
What activities are planned for the Beersel community party?
The Beersel community party promises an exciting mix of social and cultural activities designed to bring people together and celebrate local life.
Expect a relaxed atmosphere where neighbors can mingle over shared food and drinks. Morning or evening café concerts with performances by local talent — possibly at beloved spots like Bierhuis Oud Beersel — are also part of the plan to enhance the festive mood.
The event will appeal to all ages, with treasure hunts, arts and crafts workshops, and traditional games that bring generations together in fun and play.
There’s also an educational twist: guided visits to iconic landmarks like Beersel Castle and the Oud Beersel Brewery will help residents rediscover their town’s historic charm.
Given Beersel’s reputation for Lambic beers, attendees can look forward to regional beer tastings and food pairing experiences that celebrate the town’s rich brewing heritage.

Oh, how delightful! Nothing says “strong community bonds” quite like a competition for the most creative selfie with your neighbour—because clearly, nothing strengthens ties like a bit of friendly competition! 😂🍻

Oh great, a chance to win a neighborhood party by simply snapping a selfie with your mate! Because nothing screams “community spirit” like a forced photo op and a sticker to slap on your window, right? 🍻📸

Oh, fantastic, a photo contest for a free neighborhood bash! Because nothing screams “community bonding” quite like desperately snapping selfies with your neighbors to win a party – as if we don’t already have enough excuses to avoid them! 😏📸

Oh joy, a neighborhood party competition! Because nothing says “community spirit” quite like snapping selfies with the bloke who never returns my lawnmower. 🍻🎉 Let’s just hope the prize isn’t a lifetime supply of awkward small talk!

Oh joy, a chance to win a neighborhood party by snapping a selfie with the bloke next door—because nothing says “community spirit” quite like coerced camaraderie over a pint of Lambic. 🍻📸 Just what I need, more reasons to avoid the awkward small talk!

So, let me get this straight: to win a neighborhood party, I just need to take a selfie with my neighbor? Brilliant! Because nothing says “community spirit” quite like a photo op with the bloke who never returns my hedge trimmer. 😂🍻
