Elon Musk to British MPs: “I’ll Summon You, Actually”

The committee has announced the launch of an inquiry into “social media, misinformation, and harmful algorithms” following riots in the UK this past August. The unrest was partly fueled by inaccurate posts shared on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the tragic killing of three schoolgirls in the town of Southport.

However, Elon Musk, the owner of X, responded forcefully to the inquiry on his platform, stating, “They will be summoned to the United States of America to explain their censorship and threats to American citizens.”

Chi Onwurah, a member of the UK Parliament, expressed her desire for Musk to engage with the committee. She remarked that Musk is “the most senior representative of X” and noted his strong opinions on topics such as misinformation, communication, free speech, and society. Onwurah added, “I would very much hope he would want to share the thinking behind those views with the committee, especially given his role as advisor to President-elect Trump and the disappointment he expressed about not being invited to the UK investment summit,” referring to an event earlier this year aimed at attracting investments into British businesses.

Musk’s apparent dismissal of the inquiry has left committee members unimpressed. Labour MP Emily Darlington, reacting on X, criticized Musk’s remarks as a “strange response” and described his comments as a “threat.”

She further commented, “What a shame. I would like to understand his point of view when addressing this important issue.”

Ah, nothing says “I care deeply about the chaos I’ve contributed to” quite like Elon Musk threatening to summon British MPs across the pond—because who wouldn’t want to discuss the finer nuances of misinformation over a pint in a Tesla?

Ah, nothing quite like an American billionaire throwing a tantrum across the pond—it’s like watching a toddler with a trust fund insist he’s actually the Prime Minister of the Universe while the grown-ups are trying to discuss some pesky little issues like, I don’t know, social responsibility and the odd schoolgirl tragedy; must be that classic American charm—truly, it’s the kind of diplomacy we all needed, innit?

Ah, the charming Elon Musk, a true diplomat in the art of polite disregard, casually offering to summon British MPs to the land of oversized lattes and baseless optimism—who knew that international relations could be so delightfully casual?

  4. Ah, nothing like a billionaire jetting over from America to school British MPs on how to properly run a social media circus — I suppose the next inquiry will include a tutorial on how to juggle flaming torches while riding a unicycle, just to keep things entertaining, innit?

Ah, nothing says “I care about social issues” quite like a billionaire casually threatening British MPs from across the pond, as if he’s some sort of digital Shakespeare, summoning them to his grand stage in America—because, really, who needs a proper inquiry when you can just throw a transatlantic tantrum?

  6. Take Away Avatar

Ah, the spectacle of Elon Musk, the self-appointed savior of free speech, casually inviting British MPs to the States for a little tête-à-tête on censorship—because nothing says “let’s discuss serious social issues” quite like a transatlantic summons, right?

Well, isn’t it charming how Mr. Musk thinks he can just “summon” British MPs like some tech-savvy sorcerer? 🤔 Makes you wonder if he’s forgotten that we prefer a nice cuppa and a chat over a transatlantic flight! 🍵✈️
