Truck Spills 1,000 Liters of Diesel in Turnhout Due to Poor Road Conditions

Turnhout (Eurotoday) – A truck spilt 1,000 litres of diesel on Schietstandlaan in Turnhout’s Veediik industrial zone after hitting loose concrete. Emergency services cleaned up. The city council may speed up planned road repairs.

On 17 March 2025, one thousand litres of diesel gasoline leaked from a truck close to Turnhout. The truck hit a loose concrete fragment on the road while driving through the Veediik industrial area in Schietstandlaan, Belgium. The road surface was in bad condition, with lots of loose concrete slabs that were a danger to vehicles.  

A gas tank hole was made in the truck when the loose chunk of concrete hit it. There was a large amount of diesel that spilt along the road and onto the grass since the truck had recently been filled. To clean up the blank”>spill and make the road safe, emergency services were called.

Will Turnhout speed up Schietstandlaan repairs after the diesel spill?

The fire department and civil defence teams worked for a long time to clean up the diesel spill. They used special materials and equipment to stop the diesel from spreading. City workers removed the dirt that was covered in diesel from the side of the road.  The road was closed so the emergency workers could work safely.  The truck was taken away from the scene. 

The city already had plans to fix Schietstandlaan because the road was in bad shape.  But after the truck accident, the city council is thinking about fixing it faster.  They want to stop accidents like this from happening again. The city council is thinking about making road repairs a priority because of the big fuel spill that happened.  They want to fix the road quickly.

Schietstandlaan is a busy road in the Turnhout industrial zone.  Many big trucks and delivery trucks use it every day.  The road is in bad shape with cracks, holes, and loose pieces of concrete.  The city council is thinking about fixing the road sooner than they planned.  They want to make it safer for drivers and prevent accidents that could affect the environment.
