India and EU Aim to Finalize Free-Trade Agreement in 2024, Says von der Leyen
India and the European Union are working toward finalizing a free-trade agreement (FTA) this year, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Friday.
During a keynote speech in New Delhi as part of her two-day visit, von der Leyen emphasized that strengthening ties with India will be a key pillar of Europe’s long-term strategy. She highlighted plans for deeper cooperation in trade, technology, security, and defense.
“A free trade agreement between the EU and India would be the most significant deal of its kind globally. I recognize the challenges ahead, but I also believe that timing and determination are crucial. This partnership comes at the right moment for both of us,” she stated after holding discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
