EU Sends Strong Message to Zelensky: You Are Not Alone

BRUSSELS – On Friday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa reached out to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, reminding him that he has the support of the European Union during a difficult time, particularly following an uncomfortable encounter in the Oval Office.

“Your dignity reflects the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Be strong, brave, and fearless. You are not alone, dear President Zelensky,” the leaders stated in a joint social media message.

After Zelensky’s departure from the White House, Costa communicated with him to reaffirm the EU’s solidarity and commitment to a just and lasting peace.

The Ukrainian leader left the White House ahead of schedule following an intense exchange with US President Donald Trump, who criticized him for perceived ingratitude and disrespect towards the United States.

During the confrontation, Trump urged Zelensky to negotiate peace with Russia, warning that American support would be contingent on his actions. “You are playing with the lives of millions; you are playing with World War III,” Trump asserted during the heated discussion.

After the meeting, Trump took to social media to indicate that Zelensky could return when he was prepared to discuss peace.

As a result of their disagreement, the two leaders canceled a previously scheduled press conference. The White House also announced that a planned agreement for the exploitation of Ukraine’s natural resources in exchange for continued U.S. support was no longer in effect.

Following the tense meeting, the Ukrainian delegation sought refuge for discussions in another White House room, where they were visited by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, who delivered Trump’s directive for the Ukrainians to exit the White House. Oh, look at that! The EU’s sending warm, fuzzy vibes to Zelensky like a caring grandparent, while the US is throwing tantrums in the toy aisle. Who knew diplomacy could be such a circus? 🎪🤡

Oh, lovely! Nothing says “You’re not alone” quite like a stern reminder from the EU while their best mate across the pond raises an eyebrow. It’s like getting a pep talk from your mum right before your boss chews you out! 😅
