Sarajevo, (Fena) – Borjana Krišto, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has relieved Nenad Nešić of his duties as state security minister, following Nešić’s personal request to resign from the position.
“As the chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, I extend my gratitude to Minister Nešić for his professional cooperation and contributions through the institution of the Council,” stated Krišto.
The appointment of Nešić’s successor will be conducted in accordance with the Law on the Council of Ministers of BiH, as confirmed by the Council.
Earlier, the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina had also approved the decision to dismiss Nešić from his role as security minister.
Despite Nešić’s previous announcement of his resignation, MPs proceeded to discuss his dismissal because the resignation had not been formally recorded with either the Council of Ministers or the state parliament.
Nešić’s resignation came after he was arrested in December of the previous year on suspicion of engaging in corrupt activities.
In addition to Nešić, several others were arrested, including Milan Dakić, the director of the public company Putevi RS in the Republic of Srpska, and Mladen Lučić, brother of former BiH Minister Miloš Lučić, among four other individuals. They face allegations of various criminal offenses associated with leadership roles at Putevi RS and another unnamed company, including organized crime, money laundering, abuse of authority, and bribery.
Prior to these developments, Nebojša Radmanović from the SNSD party was removed from his position as deputy chairman of the House of Representatives in the state parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In light of Nešić’s arrest and subsequent resignation, questions arise regarding the impact on the finalization of the agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex). This agreement permits Frontex to assist with border control and migration management in BiH.
The Council of the European Union approved the agreement’s signing on January 27, 2025, pending only the European Parliament’s consent. Once this consent is granted, the Council will proceed to make a final decision on the signing. While the exact date for the signing has yet to be confirmed, it is anticipated to occur soon after the necessary procedural steps are completed. (30.01.)
