The Israeli government has released the names of 33 hostages it expects to be freed as part of a newly negotiated deal, sharing the information in a post on X.
The cease-fire agreement, brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, officially took effect at 11:15 a.m. local time, according to a statement from the Qatari foreign ministry on X.
Meanwhile, the Gaza civil defense agency, controlled by Hamas, reported that 10 people were killed and 25 more injured in Israeli airstrikes conducted Sunday morning.
The truce aims to suspend the 15-month-long conflict that escalated dramatically on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants launched an attack, killing approximately 1,200 Israelis and abducting around 250 individuals, bringing them into Gaza.
In the wake of the cease-fire announcement, far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir resigned from the government Sunday morning. Ben-Gvir, known for his hardline anti-Palestinian stance, condemned the truce as a “reckless deal” in a post on X. Several other members of his Otzma Yehudit Party also stepped down in protest.
