BRUSSELS (ANP) – The European Union has not established a specific spending standard for defense, leaving it to the discretion of individual member states. A spokesperson emphasized, “We all agree that Europe needs to boost its financial commitment and invest more in defense and security.”
According to the European Commission, determining a mandated percentage for each nation’s defense budget is not the main objective. In light of various threats, including Russia’s military actions in Ukraine and the overall risk posed by Russia, it is evident that Europe must enhance its collective efforts, the spokesperson stated.
“Increasing our defense spending will help mitigate the risk of aggression,” they added.
