Brussels (Eurotoday)– The province’s group buying program helps residents save on energy bills by negotiating better rates. Registration is open until Feb 12, 2025.
The province’s group buying program is set up to help people and businesses save on their energy bills by getting better prices for gas and electricity through collective buying. Deputy Jurgen Valerberghe (Vooruit) pointed out that buying energy in larger amounts can lead to lower prices, helping those who are struggling with rising costs. He mentioned that this program is especially useful now, as many are facing changing energy prices and feel overwhelmed by the choices from different providers. The goal is to simplify the process of choosing energy plans while making sure everyone can access better rates.
What are the benefits of Belgium’s group energy buying program for consumers and businesses?
This year, the provincial government is again choosing 100% Belgian green energy. They haven’t picked a supplier yet, but after people sign up, they will talk to different energy companies to find the best deal. The company with the best price will provide electricity and gas to families. Deputy Jurgen Vanlerberghe said that energy companies can get many customers without much competition. In recent years, they always chose variable rate contracts because fixed rates weren’t available. Vanlerberghe mentioned that last year, the fixed prices were too high. If there are good fixed rates this year, they might offer both fixed and variable options to families and businesses that register.
Registration for Belgium‘s group energy buying program is open until February 12, 2025. This program allows residents and businesses to join together to negotiate better rates for gas and electricity, making it easier to choose energy contracts. It has been said that by taking part, consumers can benefit from buying power in bulk, which could help them save money on their energy bills. In last year’s group energy purchase, over 36,000 people were able to secure good contracts with suppliers. Authorities mentioned that this shows how effective the program is at helping many consumers find affordable energy.
