Bratislava – The Slovak National Party (SNS) has expressed full support for Prime Minister Robert Fico’s initiative to reevaluate Slovakia’s foreign policy direction, emphasizing the necessity for reforms within the European Union. This announcement was made by Zuzana Škopcová, Director of the SNS President’s Office, in response to the Prime Minister's proposal to issue a joint statement outlining Slovakia's foreign policy stance.
Škopcová highlighted the need for reform within the EU, noting that various political parties across member states are increasingly advocating for changes related to both the EU and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
The SNS asserts that the positions of Slovakia’s three constitutional officials must reflect these political shifts occurring throughout the EU. “For the EU to effectively compete with the USA, the Russian Federation, and China, it fundamentally needs to alter its policy positions,” Škopcová remarked.
On January 7, Prime Minister Fico announced his intention to collaborate with the highest constitutional officials and coalition leaders to draft a statement regarding Slovakia's foreign policy orientation. He indicated that this initiative would address the emergence of alternative viewpoints to those typically endorsed by Brussels, as well as a rejection of core democratic principles. Fico also mentioned that the statement aims to clarify the guiding principles for Slovakia’s foreign affairs. (January 8)
