Macron Urges Ukraine to Adopt a ‘Realistic’ Approach to Territorial Matters

Russia seized Crimea in 2014, and since launching its full-scale invasion in 2022, it has captured significant portions of eastern Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron’s remarks come as Europe braces for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to take office on January 20. Trump has expressed an interest in expediting an end to the war in Ukraine.

Macron emphasized the importance of U.S. involvement in bringing Russia to the negotiating table. He also called on European nations to fulfill their responsibility by offering Ukraine security guarantees.

Despite these hopes for progress, Macron cautioned against expecting a swift resolution to the conflict.

“There won’t be a quick solution,” he stated. “Any rapid resolution that entails Ukraine’s capitulation would not serve the interests of Europe or the United States.”

Seems like Macron’s got a real knack for stating the obvious, doesn’t he? 🤔 As if telling Ukraine to be “realistic” is gonna magically make Putin hand back Crimea over a nice cuppa tea! 🍵 #EurPolitik
