Hasselt (Eurotoday Newspaper): Modemuseum Hasselt’s “Mothers” drew 13,000 visitors up 12% under director Karolien De Clippel. Extended to March 9, “Rococo Reboost” opens on April 4.
From June to December, the exhibition welcomed around 13,000 visitors, marking a 12% rise from last year. According to director Karolien De Clippel, this increase shows the exhibition’s growing appeal to local and international guests. October was particularly busy due to Belgian Fashion Week in Hasselt, drawing in fashion fans and boosting visitor numbers. This connection enhanced Hasselt’s reputation as a vibrant centre for art and fashion.
What impact has the Mother exhibition had on fashion and motherhood in Hasselt?
The exhibition has received great feedback, with visitors and the media showing excitement about it being the first of its kind to explore the link between fashion and motherhood, including all types of mothers. Inspired by the Virga Jesse celebrations in Hasselt that honour Mother Mary, the organizers aimed to highlight the theme of motherhood. There’s also interest in taking the exhibition to the US and UK, and they are exploring this possibility, which reflects its significance.
The exhibition has been extended and will now run until March 9, giving more people the chance to explore its theme centred around fashion and motherhood. Following this, the museum will temporarily close its doors to begin demolition and construction for a new exhibition set to launch on April 4.”Rococo Reboost,” is set to be a celebration of the opulence of the 18th century. The plan is to make the event as engaging and sensory as possible, so people will get the most out of the art and culture of the Rococo period. This change marks the museum’s ongoing dedication to providing fresh experiences for its audience.

Isn’t it just delightful that a bunch of fashionistas flock to an exhibition about motherhood? 😂 Next they’ll be holding a catwalk on how to change diapers in style.
