The Albanian Ministry of Economy, Culture, and Innovation has officially launched the third and final phase of the EU4Culture grant initiative, titled “Recreate the Past, Build the Future.”
This phase will award eight grants totaling $356,541 to support non-governmental organizations (NGOs) focused on enhancing handicrafts, pioneering innovative tourism, developing digital platforms, and organizing cultural events across several municipalities, including Tirana, Mirdita, Durrës, Kavaja, Rrogozhina, Kurbin, and Kruja. These areas are home to significant cultural heritage sites that were impacted by the 2019 earthquake.
The funded projects will encompass a variety of themes aimed at connecting local communities with their cultural heritage, thereby reinforcing their cultural identity while also providing opportunities for economic development.
As noted by the European Union delegation in Albania, the initiatives will contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage, empower youth, and foster connections between traditional practices and the tourism sector.
The EU4Culture program has played a vital role in the restoration and reopening of key cultural and spiritual heritage sites, including the Medieval Hammam of Durrës, the Church of Rubik, the Ethnographic Museum of Kavaja, and the castle of Ishëm, among others. / (January 6)
