7 Bags Illegally Dumped in Rumst, Suspect Identified

Rumst (Eurotoday) – At the end of January 2025, 7 trash bags were dumped on Morenhoevestraat and the E19 bridge. The suspect was caught and will pay cleanup costs and a fine. Mayor Jurgen Callaerts said fly-tipping is a serious issue. Authorities use cameras to stop it and keep public spaces clean.

At the end of January 2025, people found trash dumped on Morenhoevestraat and the bridge over the E19 at Petrus Van der Taelenstraat. 7 bags of garbage were left in the ditch and on the bridge. Officials mentioned that it seemed that someone threw the bags from the bridge. The local government responded quickly. They sent 3 workers to clean up the mess. 

They mentioned that the cleanup took almost 5 hours to finish. Fly-tipping is when people throw away trash in public places. This act can harm the environment. It also costs local governments money. They have to use their resources to clean up these messes.

How are local authorities addressing the growing issue of fly-tipping?

According to officials, the person suspected of dumping the trash has been identified. This individual will have to pay for the cleanup. They will also receive a fine from the local government as punishment for their actions. Local authorities take fly-tipping very seriously. 

Authorities mentioned that they want to stop others from doing the same thing in the future. Fly-tipping is a growing problem in many areas. Local governments are looking for ways to solve this issue. They are using surveillance cameras and running public awareness campaigns. They mentioned that these efforts aim to reduce the impact of illegal dumping and keep public spaces clean.

According to officials, these cameras help in two ways. They can scare off people from dumping trash and also catch those who do it. They mentioned that, in Bristol, new cameras are now in place in areas known for blank”>illegal dumping. This is part of the effort to reduce fly-tipping and keep public spaces clean.

The problem of fly-tipping is not new. There are several reasons for it. We have already installed cameras to combat nuisance, including fly-tipping, but it remains a difficult battle. I think it is positive that we can link a fine to this major fly-tipping.
