Jerusalem (Eurotoday) – Israeli airstrikes on Sunday killed at least 23 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to local health officials. Among the dead were a well-known local journalist and a senior figure in the civil emergency services.
How many Palestinians have died since the October 7 attacks?
On Friday, the Israeli military confirmed that it had intensified its operations in Gaza, launching strikes on 75 locations overnight. These targets reportedly included weapons depots and rocket launchers.
Who were the key victims of Sunday’s attacks?
The casualties from Sunday’s raids occurred across multiple regions in Gaza: Khan Younis in the south, Jabalia in the north, and Nuseirat in central Gaza, according to medical sources.
In Jabalia, a strike on a residence claimed the life of journalist Hassan Majdi Abu Warda along with several members of his family. Abu Warda had been reporting from the region since the conflict began.
Meanwhile, in Nuseirat, an airstrike killed Ashraf Abu Nar, a senior official from Gaza’s civil emergency services, along with his wife, local medics confirmed.
According to the media office of Gaza’s Hamas-led government, Abu Warda’s death brings the number of Palestinian journalists killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023, to 220.
The media office added that Israeli ground operations and sustained bombardments have now resulted in the military controlling approximately 77% of the Gaza Strip, leaving many areas inaccessible to civilians and prompting mass evacuations.
On Sunday, armed factions aligned with Hamas and Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for multiple ambushes targeting Israeli troops with explosives and anti-tank munitions in various areas of the enclave.
How many Palestinians have died since the October 7 attacks?
The current escalation stems from an unprecedented Hamas-led incursion into Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 Israeli deaths and the capture of 251 hostages, according to Israeli authorities.
In response, Israel launched a full-scale air and ground offensive in Gaza. Since then, more than 53,900 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza’s health ministry. The ongoing conflict has devastated much of the territory, with humanitarian agencies warning of widespread malnutrition and collapse of essential services.

Isn’t it just delightful how the conflict in Gaza manages to produce a two-for-one special on tragedies? Who needs a peaceful resolution when you can have airstrikes and a body count that would make even the most hardened politician shed a tear… or at least a very well-crafted statement? 😏

Isn’t it just delightful how peace negotiations seem to come with a complimentary airstrike these days? 🥳 I suppose that’s what they call “collateral damage” in the fine print of diplomacy.
