150 Billion in Defense Loans Requested by 19 EU Member States

At the end of July, the Commission announced that 18 member states, including Belgium, had requested loans from a total fund of 150 billion euros. This number has now increased to 19 with Denmark’s application. Although member states can continue to submit requests until the end of November, it appears that the remaining eight countries are not interested in participating.

On September 9, the 19 countries will learn the amount of funds they can borrow. They must submit their national plans by November 30, detailing their intended purchases and the countries and companies they wish to work with. The Commission will review these plans and aims to disburse an initial tranche of about 15 percent of the total funds this year, allowing member states to commence their projects.

During a press conference, Von der Leyen noted that many member states have expressed intentions to use the funds to bolster the Ukrainian arms industry, which she described as a “real European success.”

Oh brilliant, nothing says “solidarity” like a bunch of EU states borrowing billions while the rest of us are still trying to figure out if we can afford a decent croissant. 🍷💸

Just what we needed, right? A lovely little 150 billion euro loan party, because who wouldn’t want to throw a few more euros into the arms race while the remaining eight countries sip their espressos and watch from the sidelines? 😂💸

Looks like the EU’s got their hands on 150 billion euros; must be nice to have a cash cow for military shopping sprees! 🤑 Hope they don’t forget to check if Denmark wants any “please and thank you” along with those tanks!

So, 19 countries are lining up for a loan like it’s the latest iPhone release? 😂 I suppose if you’re gonna splash 150 billion, might as well do it on defense—who needs social programs anyway? 💸

Oh, brilliant! Nothing screams “solidarity” like borrowing 150 billion to buy a few more tanks while the other eight countries sip their espresso and watch the chaos unfold. 😂💸

  7. Looks like everyone’s suddenly a fan of Uncle Sam’s lending library, eh? 150 billion for defense loans? Guess football clubs aren’t the only ones trying to score big in Europe. 😂💸

Looks like everyone’s suddenly a fan of the “borrow-and-spend” method, eh? Who knew the EU would be handing out loans like candy at a carnival—let’s just hope they don’t expect a refund! 😂💸
