Ukraine Offers 30-Day Ceasefire Proposal, As U.S. Warns of Stalled Peace Talks

Ukraine has proposed a 30-day ceasefire to halt long-range drone and missile attacks targeting civilian infrastructure, with the option to extend the pause depending on developments. Ukrainian officials expressed hope this approach would serve as a foundation for broader de-escalation.

“This is a format of ceasefire that has been achieved and that is the easiest to extend,” a Ukrainian spokesperson said.

However, on the Russian side, there are no signs of a corresponding move. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told the state-owned news agency TASS that “no orders” had been given to prolong or honor a ceasefire.

Meanwhile, the United States continues efforts to mediate an agreement between the two countries. For weeks, Washington has been attempting to broker a temporary truce. A recent month-long ceasefire proposal, which Ukraine had agreed to, was rejected by the Kremlin. Although Russian President Vladimir Putin had initially signaled willingness to stop targeting civilian energy infrastructure, those promises quickly fell apart — with a new barrage of attacks occurring just one hour after the supposed truce began.

President Donald Trump, who has taken an active role in pushing for a resolution, issued a stark warning on Friday, threatening to withdraw from negotiations altogether if no real progress is made.

“If for some reason, one of the two parties makes it very difficult, we’re just going to say ‘you’re foolish, you’re fools, you’re horrible people’ and we’re going to take a pass,” Trump said.

He followed up on Sunday with a message on his Truth Social platform: “HOPEFULLY RUSSIA AND UKRAINE WILL MAKE A DEAL THIS WEEK. BOTH WILL THEN START TO DO BIG BUSINESS WITH THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WHICH IS THRIVING, AND MAKE A FORTUNE!”

The ongoing conflict remains devastating. Just last week, a missile strike launched by Russia hit the Ukrainian city of Sumy during Palm Sunday celebrations. The attack killed more than 30 people and injured at least 117 others, marking one of the deadliest strikes so far this year.

Oh, splendid! A 30-day ceasefire proposal, because nothing says “let’s achieve world peace” quite like a month-long holiday from bombing civilians. 🎉 Maybe next time we’ll throw in a cake and some balloons, eh? 🍰

Oh, brilliant move there, proposing a ceasefire while the other side’s still polishing their missiles—talk about bringing a spoon to a knife fight! 🙄 But hey, maybe Putin’s just waiting for the Easter Bunny to deliver some goodwill—if only he could check his calendar, right? 🐰💥

Isn’t it lovely when a ceasefire proposal is about as solid as a wet paper towel? 😂 Seems like the only thing getting extended around here are the excuses for not playing nice. Cheers to a month of *not* bombing, but we’ll see if that lasts longer than a Euro summer! 🍻
