Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, expressed her support for the recent announcement regarding a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza via a statement on X.
“I commend the diplomatic efforts of the USA, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey in achieving this significant breakthrough. I am also heartened by the backing from the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority. It is crucial that all parties adhere to the agreement’s terms. The safe release of all hostages is imperative. A lasting ceasefire must be established. The suffering must come to an end,” she stated.
She added, “The EU will persist in facilitating the swift and safe delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. When the time arises, we will be prepared to support recovery and rebuilding efforts. We must capitalize on today’s opportunity to establish a credible political path toward enduring peace and security, which must be firmly rooted in the two-state solution.”
Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, remarked that “the execution of the ceasefire agreement creates an avenue for the long-awaited release of all Israeli hostages, the cessation of hostilities in Gaza, and a resolution to the severe humanitarian crisis in the area,” highlighting that this moment represents “a crucial opportunity to lay the groundwork for lasting peace, founded on a two-state solution.” (10/9/25)
