A press conference is scheduled at Mar-a-Lago for later Saturday at 11 a.m. local time.
Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro’s government accused Washington of carrying out strikes on the country following explosions early Saturday with low-flying aircraft over Caracas.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration had banned U.S. commercial flights in Venezuelan airspace due to “ongoing military activity” before the explosions in Caracas, as reported by the Associated Press. The strikes were part of a months-long pressure campaign by the Trump administration.
The attack reportedly lasted less than 30 minutes.
Earlier this week, Maduro dismissed Trump’s allegations of his government supporting global narco-trafficking, accusing the White House of fabricating reasons to target the South American nation during an interview with state media.
