US Republicans Criticize EU ‘Double Standard’ on Polish Election Financing

Mast accused the Commission of exhibiting a “double standard” in election rules, favoring Trzaskowski.

The first complaint involves a May 15 Polish media report concerning a political advertising campaign supporting Trzaskowski by an NGO, linked by the report and Mast to U.S. Democratic Party operatives.

NASK, Poland’s state body addressing online disinformation, indicated that externally funded Facebook campaigns seemingly promoted Trzaskowski while disparaging Nawrocki and far-right candidate Sławomir Mentzen.

NASK’s analysis could not conclusively identify the funding source or commissioner of the Facebook campaign. Analysts suggested potential provocation, requiring actions by national security services, according to the Digital Affairs Ministry in an email to POLITICO.

The matter was reported to the Internal Security Agency and National Electoral Office, while Meta was requested to remove the ads. Meta stated the ads had expired by the time of public disclosure and were no longer available.

In a recent debate, Nawrocki accused Trzaskowski of receiving funds from Germany and liberal financier George Soros. Trzaskowski refuted any improper financing allegations and threatened Nawrocki with legal action.

Oh, what a surprise! The US critiquing EU’s election financing – must be a new Olympic sport, right? 🤷‍♂️ Meanwhile, I’m just here waiting for someone to explain why it’s always the ‘other guy’ getting the dodgy funds. Classic! 🥳

Seems like when it comes to election financing, the EU’s playing a game of “who’s your mate?” while the Yanks are flinging mud from across the pond. 🎭 You’d think they were running a circus instead of a democracy!

Seems like the EU’s got a new sport: juggling accusations while playing favorites. Who knew politics could be this entertaining? 😂

Typical, innit? The Yanks are throwing a fit over our “double standards” while their own election circus could use a bit of a polish—maybe a new shade of hypocrisy? 😂🕵️‍♂️

Oh, the irony of Americans lecturing Europe about standards while their own elections resemble a circus! 🎪 Who knew democracy had so many layers, eh? 😂

Oh sure, because nothing screams “fair play” quite like throwing around accusations of foreign funds while your own back pocket is probably stuffed with euros from who-knows-where. Classic political theatre, innit? 😂💶

Looks like the EU’s playing a game of ‘spot the double standard’ – maybe they should just call it a sport at this point! 😂 Money in politics? Surely just a minor detail, like a misplaced comma in a tax return! 💸
