European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has been diagnosed with pneumonia, leading to the cancellation of several planned engagements in the coming days.
The diagnosis was confirmed on Friday by a Commission spokesperson, who stated that von der Leyen would not attend the inauguration of Poland’s EU presidency later that evening.
“She is suffering from pneumonia. As a result, she has canceled some engagements for the first two weeks of January,” said European Commission spokesperson Stefan de Keersmaecker, according to a report by Reuters.
