Upcoming Meeting in Brussels with Albania’s Special Prosecutor to Showcase SPAK Achievements

Valentina Superti, the Director for Enlargement at the European Commission, visited Tirana and met with Altin Dumani, head of the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK).

The EU delegation in Tirana reported that the meeting was productive, emphasizing SPAK’s crucial role in combating organized crime.

SPAK, established under Albania’s Justice Reform, has been recognized for its significant contributions to advancing the country’s EU membership negotiations.

Chief Prosecutor Dumani is set to travel to Brussels soon, where he will outline SPAK’s achievements during his tenure, underscoring its impact on addressing high-level corruption and organized crime, as well as contributing to Albania’s EU integration efforts.

According to the EU delegation, it is essential for SPAK to continue its work with unwavering commitment under the new Special Chief Prosecutor, with close monitoring of Dumani’s successor’s selection and appointment process.

Altin Dumani, the second head of SPAK since its inception, following Arben Kraja, will conclude his mandate on December 18, 2025.

SPAK was founded on December 19, 2019, as part of the Justice Reform initiative.

SPAK’s eight prosecutors serve a 9-year term, while the head of SPAK has a 3-year term without eligibility for re-election.

The positive outcomes from SPAK have been noted in the European Parliament’s reports.

Brussels authorities have repeatedly stressed the importance of Albania demonstrating tangible progress in crucial areas. In this context, the full independence of SPAK must be preserved. (October 20)

Meeting with Albania’s Special Prosecutor? Sounds like a fantastic way to spend an afternoon discussing *real* progress… or perhaps just another round of bureaucratic tea and biscuits. 🍵🥴

  2. So, a big meeting in Brussels to pat SPAK on the back for their “achievements”—I can already hear the applause echoing through the empty streets of Tirana. Just what we needed, another chat about progress while corruption does the cha-cha behind the scenes! 😂🍷
