Kyiv (Eurotoday) – Ukrainian officials have confirmed that seven people were killed, including a toddler and a 16-year-old boy, after a Russian drone strike in a residential neighborhood of Kharkiv overnight.
The latest attack comes just as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is going to meet with US President Donald Trump on Monday at the White House, as well as meeting with a diverse group of leaders from a number of European countries, including France, the UK, Germany, and Finland, along with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
How many drones did Russia launch overnight on Ukraine?
The Ukrainian air force said that Russia targeted Ukraine with 140 drones overnight, the highest number overnight since August 4, Reuters reported.
Kharkiv has experienced regular drone and missile attacks by Russian forces since the beginning of the conflict. Oleh Synehubov, governor of the larger Kharkiv region, said on Telegram that the attack in Ukraine’s second-largest city caused injuries to 20 people, including six children ages 6 to 17.
How did ballistic missile strikes affect Kharkiv buildings?
According to Synehubov, a ballistic missile attack on Sunday also broke around 1,000 windows in different buildings across the city. Officials also said that some residents had to be evacuated as a result.
Additionally, overnight, Russia also launched four missiles as well as drones, according to the air force, which reported 88 drones shot down and confirmed impacts at 25 sites across six regions. In a morning missile attack against an unspecified critical infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, 17 people were injured, officials said.
What did Ukraine’s foreign minister say after the attack?
“Russia is a murderous war machine that Ukraine is holding back. And it must be stopped through transatlantic unity and pressure,”
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated after the strike. He stated that Russia was still killing civilians despite ongoing peace initiatives.
How has Kharkiv endured russian bombardment since 2022 invasion?
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Kharkiv, the second-largest city close to the Russian border, has been bombed and attacked by Russia continuously.
Kharkiv witnessed its major attack, June 7, 2025, when Russian forces launched one of the biggest attacks on Kharkiv since Russia launched its full invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The attack included an attack consisting of 214 drones and missiles, including precision-guided air-d
